Change default file extension?

I wrote a plugin to save gcode in a binary file, but evey time I click save it defaults to gcode.  Is there a way to change the default to a different extension?  Or have cura remember the last file extension saved?  Using Cura 3.6.0 on windows.

This is a setting you can set in the machine definition. If you set that file extension as the first one in the "file_formats" option, cura should default to it on saving.

On Cura 4.6 there is no file_formats option in the machine settings for the printer. Is there another way to set it?
