MakerBot ABS on UM3

Long time Makerbot 2X user will be recieving my UM3 next Tuesday.  Totally psyched!  I have quite a bit of Makerbot ABS that I'd like to use in the UM3.  Is this possible?  Can anyone tell me what might be involved?  Is it as simple as getting it onto a compatible spool and manually selecting the material?  Are the filament diameters agreeable?  Thanks!

I don't know the Makerbot filament, but if the Makerbot ABS filament is a 1.75mm then it is not easy. You have to change some parts of the printer to print reliable with 1.75mm and I do not recommend to do that. Feeder, Bowden Tube and the print core are build to work with 2.85, filament.

If it is a 2.85mm filament then you don't have to do anything, just select Generic ABS when loading the filament and you are ready to go. If you need to adjust the temperature you can set it in Cura during slicing.

It is possible to run 1.75mm filament on an UM3, some users did it with more less good experiences. So I would sell these 10 spools or print it on the Makerbot.

If you are interested, search the forum here, there are some threads with the conversion to 1.75mm. But keep in mind, that you have to convert it back if you want to print 2.85mm. Or you convert only one print core and leave the other as is.

Is always the question whether the effort for 10 spools really pays off.
