Cura hangs forever when trying to slice after upgrade to 4.6.1

I upgraded from version 4.6.0 to 4.6.1 today and now Cura hangs forever whenever I click the slice button.  The same simple files that I sliced earlier the same day in a fraction of a second never finishes now (ran for over an hour).  I reinstalled version 4.6.0 and it did not fix the problem.  Each time I uninstalled, I deleted the configuration.

You probably left a really huge number on one of the parameters. A layer height or say, 0.000001 mm is bound to take a long time. Try checking your parameters first.

I double checked all the settings and can't see anything out of the ordinary.  Besides, wouldn't clearing all the configuration settings when uninstalling remove any of that anyway?  Is there a way to reset to default to confirm this?  Also, I didn't change ANYTHING when I upgrades to 4.6.1.  I had a successful instantaneous slice before and then it didn't work on the same one afterward - I take things in steps precisely so I can troubleshoot in situations like this.  Only in this case, going back to the previous version hasn't helped either.

Is there any way to ensure that all the settings are completely reset on uninstall?

Honestly, it feels like the application is hanging on some sort of permission / security hurdle.  Is there a log or some sort of status that might show this?

Solved - it was the Firewall.  I have Comodo Firewall on this computer and somehow Cura got marked as a "Contained Application".  I don't know why I didn't encounter this when I upgraded to 4.6.0, but once I changed this, slicing was instantaneous again.

As an aside, Windows defender popped up a message asking to give Cura permission the 2nd time I rebooted the computer after this occurred.  Again, I don't know why it didn't do that the first time, but that's what gave me the idea to look into Comodo firewall - along with my comment above about it being a security issue.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
