Printer Head Clogged - Fan Bracket stuck Half Way Open

Hi

I am trying to recover from a nasty bout of "head flood" on my company's S5.  With heat gun and dremel I have removed the blob.  Now I am trying to remove the nozzles.  The manual says you must be in "configuration" menu to remove the nozzle.  However, I have an ER 28 message that won't clear, so I can not get to configuration mode - leaving me in a catch 22.  I am fairly certain I know the cause of the ER28 error.  When removing the blob from the "head flood" incident, I broke one wire to the nozzle.

How do I clear the error to get to configuration to allow me to remove a nozzle?

Thank you

    Hi,

first to get clear: if you say "remove the nozzles", you mean removing the printcore from the print head (as the nozzle, which is part of the printcore, cannot be removed without a high risk of breaking the heatbreak, which will definitely ruin the printcore)?

Removing the printcore(s) is normally done via menu, but can also be done with the printer powered off (I'm talking about UM3, but as the printcores are identical and the printhead is nearly identical, this should also work un the S5):

The filament must be unloaded from the printcore(s). Then flip down the front fan bracket, compress the print core levers and pull out the print core to the front (apply a little bit of pressure on the upper side of the lever while pulling).

Print core 2 has to be in the lower position for removing.

Reinstalling is just vice versa: compress print core lever, slide print core in print head slot til it clicks, close fan bracket (and reload material).

    I hope I could help.

    Regards

    Hi Enigma

I have never had to remove a print core before.  In the power off should it pop out effortlessly after piching the two spring loaded levers?  I don't want to force anything after my head flood.

    Hi,

yes, the print core is only held by the clamping of its housing.

If you take the "spare" print core shipped with your printer (if you're using the BB in slot 2 of the print head: the AA core or vice versa), you can see two recesses on top of the translucent part of the lever. Into these recesses grips a notch from the printhead, so if you pull the printcore out straight, it won't come out easily. That's why I suggested a little pressure down while pulling (other users just wiggle the printcore loose).
