Posted · Supports go through entire model to bed

I'm new to Cura (coming from Simplify3d) and I've heard supports are easier to work with in S3D than cura, but with the available plugins, I thought that was an issue of the past. The plugins allow me to place supports manually exactly how I was hoping, however, the supports always go straight through the model to the print bed which causes undesirable effects. Am I missing something or does Cura not offer the ability to have a support from the model to an overhang? I see that correctly applies settings where it attaches to the model for easier removal, however, if there are any gaps in the model below the support, it also goes through that section even if it doesn't need to be supported.  I designed this quick file to illustrate what I'm trying to accomplish. Lets say I only want to add supports to this upper overhang, but don't need them under the model. When I add the support to the overhang, it goes right through the model to the bed.DkoTpq3lCN.thumb.png.e4b856af6391f323bbbaad1e3f505387.png
