I installed a fresh 5.3, materials lists Generic HIPS as installed but I don't see it in the installed materials listing?

The 'Generic' materials are bundled with Cura, so you wouldn't see those in Marketplace. Well, more than just bundled, because so are the UM materials, and you can see those just fine in that spot, but the 'generic' ones are the bedrock everything else is based off of, and so are treated in special ways.

(And for the other way around, when you don't see any materials in the dropdown that you installed, that might be because some materials are 1.75mm or 2.85mm only.)

Nope..  turns out the software specifically excludes generic hips.. don't know why, it's the only material listed in the exclusion list.  It's possible to change it but the next Cura update with put it back..
No biggie,  I just use a manufacturer's HIPS instead.

      • UltiMaker Cura Alpha 🎄 Tree Support Spotlight 🎄
Are you a fan of tree support, but dislike the removal process and the amount of filament it uses? Then we would like to invite you to try this special release of UltiMaker Cura. Brought to you by our special community contributor @thomasrahm

We generated a special version of Cura 5.2 called 5.3.0 Alpha + Xmas. The only changes we introduced compared to UltiMaker Cura 5.2.1 are those which are needed for the new supports. So keep in mind, this is not a sneak peek for Cura 5.3 (there are some really cool new features coming up) but a spotlight release highlighting this new version of tree supports.
