Ultimaker S5: A lot of force is needed to extrude through new printcore

Hello everyone,

I was tasked with the repair of an Ultimaker s5. When trying to print only a small amount of filament is extruded before the feeder grinds away the filament.

The feeder  was testet separetly and works fine.

The Printcore is fresh out the box. When setting a temperature via the touchscreen, it shows that it reaches the set temperature. When pushing the filament through the nozzle manually only a fine line of filament gets extruded. This extrusion is less then expected and needs a lot of force. I tested PLA with a temperature of 200°C and then 220°C with no difference.

There is nothing stuck inside the nozzle.

I thought maybe the temperature is not read out correctly. Could this be the issue

The other possibility that I thought of is that´only one printcore is intalled at the moment.

Does anyone else have an idea what the issue could be?

Best regards

LJ

Sounds like your front fan might be dirty/damaged.
Additionally you might have the feeder's pressure set wrong. (it should always be in the middle)

Additionally is this a stand alone S5? or connected to a Material Station?

I tried both an older fan and a new fan and the problem was the same. The feeder is set in the middle position. This is a stand alone S5.

You could try cleaning the print core.
It very much is a normal maintenance step.

Additionally if its a 3rd party print core it could just be defective. They very much are not all equal.

Also if the prior user(s) replaced or tried to replace the nozzle manually on the print core it could be damaged. They are not considered user serviceable by UltiMaker.

      • UltiMaker Cura Alpha 🎄 Tree Support Spotlight 🎄
Are you a fan of tree support, but dislike the removal process and the amount of filament it uses? Then we would like to invite you to try this special release of UltiMaker Cura. Brought to you by our special community contributor @thomasrahm

We generated a special version of Cura 5.2 called 5.3.0 Alpha + Xmas. The only changes we introduced compared to UltiMaker Cura 5.2.1 are those which are needed for the new supports. So keep in mind, this is not a sneak peek for Cura 5.3 (there are some really cool new features coming up) but a spotlight release highlighting this new version of tree supports.
