Posted · Dividing a Large Print into Several Smaller Prints in cura

Geez, give people a little more than 5 minutes, will you?

This isn't something Cura is really designed for. There's a plugin available (just go to Marketplace in the top right) called Banana Split which, with that you rotate your model so whatever you want to cut off is below the build plate, then click the split button (which you'll have to do a couple of times for a cut into three). Just remember the co-ordinates of where you cut it off so you can cut it in the same places. It's not designed for that, but it's a crude hack. You're much better off splitting the model into 3 separately then doing each one separately in Cura.

You also have to bear in mind how you are going to reattach the pieces - flat surfaces next to each other is not a good way. One way is to create small holes in the edge on one side and small pegs (a bit smaller than the hole, but about the same length) on the other - put a dab of superglue (just regular old superglue, cyanoacrylate, it's one of the few adhesives that will work on PLA) in the end of each hole, line up the holes, put the other piece in, hold together for a minute or two (superglue works fast). Other people add parts so they can screw the pieces together.
