Using different coils for different object in the same print.
assuming the "coils" you mentioned are the two extruders / nozzles of the print head, the procedure you described is exactly how 2 color printing is done in Cura. So yes, it IS possible.
The attached Cura print guide was made for an ancient version of Cura (if I remember correctly somewhat about version 2), but the main steps are still the same, the selection of the related nozzle might be easier in the current version.
