Breaking in the UM2

Hi All,

Here are some photos of what I've been up to since getting my UM2 on Thursday.

This is the start of some SciFi gaming terrain I've been modeling.

Not liking the blue filament. I have some blue-grey ColorFabb ready to go, but I thought I would continue to work out any kinks with the included roll of blue.

Everything here was modeled in Sketchup and printed at .15mm layer thickness.

Only 2 issues so far:

  • The cooling fans disconnected in shipping. Fixed.
  • Had one incident of filament grinding on a model that required lots of rapid retracts. Will watch closely from now on.

It takes a village...

Everything so far

The habitat with front and back panels, and power generator. Those large feet are for a landing pad I've yet to print. The small feet are for the habitat module.

More detail on the habitat module.

Looks awesome Mark. Which sci-fi gaming terrain is it?

I recently bought a board game called Settlers of Catan ( very popular game ) and have considered printing out the 3D board :)

    Thanks Skint,

I had http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en/in mind, but it would work for any 25-28mm SciFi or modern ops style miniature game.

I've seen a few Catan board pieces (on Thingiverse I think) that looked pretty cool. I don't play it myself, but I have other board games that could use some custom pieces. So many prints...so little time.

Luckily my wife likes the idea of 3D printing. She even joked about getting another UM2 so we don't fight over this one. :)

    Cheers,

    Mark
