Richard, my Z endstop has been a pain to set correctly at the beginning, always sliding when screwing for some reason (and wood case a little too soft) but it works OK. However I've seen a few times some replacement for this system:

I don't know how severly damaged it is in your case, but maybe that could be a solution to fix it?
Replacing the Z endstop will be impossible, at least not in 9 months. The plywood is also damaged, someone used a 6-32 screw which ends up breaking that spot. And because someone used a 6-32 screw to screw the endstop, well you know what happen....It just break in parts.
9 months? That's a long wait for a single micro-switch.
Anyhow, you could use any other homing switch, the right front homing switch isn't that important for example, so you could use that one in place of the Z homing switch. You could attach it with some tape while you print a nicer holder for it.
