Hi,

We need to print a standing doll using UM2 which is around 8 inch long, I am wondering what kind of support you recommend. Doll is standing on feet with no base, so I am little worried about stickiness to plate, what kind of support you recommend, I am planning to use raft with cura support everywhere, I need to print the same in PLA.

Cura is giving me estimate of 24 hours with raft, support everywhere, 0.1 mm layer, 30% infill, 40 mm/s print speed, 150mm/s travel speed and retraction on. As this will be big print do you recommend any kind of precaution. Esp with support everywhere we have seen print usually require lot of post processing, do you have any recommendation to minimize the same.

Thanks in advance

What I saw an experienced about support is, that it is tricky to handle and most of the time a print does not turn out the same quality as if you oriented the print to another direction. If it doesn't matter you could do in two parts divided below the chest. Like that you could print the the legs up to the air. That would give you two nice surfaces to stick to the bed and support if needed there would be way shorter what reduces the risk.

As far as I can tell your settings sound good. Perhaps you could reduce the amount of infill a few percent, which would reduce printing time and material usage.

As Nightwish said if it's possible cut the object in two to avoid using supports. You can do that easily with MeshMixer.

I never use Raft because it damages a lot the part that is in touch with it.

If you plan to use Support from Cura, i would suggest using lines instead of grid (found in expert settings), they come off easily and leave less to clean. You can also use Meshmixer for supports, you can follow the guidelines from illumarti here:

With the latest version there is a setting for UM2 (by Dizinghof) i don't know if it's perfect but he's an excellent maker so i guess it should work well.

Maybe you can show a picture of the object?
