  1. Sure..

we can use all the help we get, how more adopters the better.

    we are almost done.

you can fill out a form on the website.

A link of a stl with your name in will be sent to your mail address.

I should be printed in white. (1001 shades of white available I found out, but looks nice :) ) .

    regards Kees

  2. Hi,

I have read above posts, a little technical, but get the idea ( I guess :) ).

I might not be the average Cura user, but I took some pictures from the workflow that suits me best.

    WP 001075

I have an idea about the files I load, so choose the profile already.

    Hit he load button

    WP 001078

As soon as the models appear, move them away from the buildplatform in 1 sec before cura starts calculating.

    WP 001080

Most parts I have to rotate and move. Prints a lot faster keeping the Bowden as straight as possible.

    WP 001081

When the stones are in position, pull them fast in the right position on the buildplate.

No hesitations otherwise you have to wait until cura is done with the one yellow part.

On this computer there seems to be a delay off aprox. 1 sec before cura starts calculating.

    WP 001082

When parts are yellow, hit layer view, go do something else for 2 minutes. check layers and save the gcode.

    WP 001083

Hit normal view ( don't forget it!!) and load a new platform ( 400 stones to go ) Almost done ;)

And In my free time, still having fun printing at home ;).

But I do like a START slicing button!!!! :-|

  3. I think it worked.

But eeuhmm, perhaps a jury thing?

is adjusting a tolerance not the same as redesigning a part?

I see the fun in printing as small as possible or large as needed, by scaling in cura.

Should have thought of scaling up the voronai bracelet?

But it's fun anyhow, I give it a try with the standard tolerance. :)

  4. Thanks!, did not notice that.

Gave it a first try, but

    Oh No!

There was a problem communicating with Thingiverse.

It is also possible that you are using Safari, if so click the Safari Fix button then reload this page

Wll give it a try in Firefox.

Or else makerbot refuses links from competitors sites

  5. I hope you understand that we cannot give dates till we say "It's released! Order now!" I think you can go do this now pretty soon: http://i.imgur.com/QL4Vn.jpg

(It's as good as done, engineering on it is finished, BOM and so on has been made, it's pretty much finishing up manuals, documentation, getting stock, and marketing from now on. So I'm kinda out of the loop in when it will be ready-ready.)

Psst.. Daid.. do you think we are allowed to tell, "it looks nice and works super?"

  6. Really? why is this out in Cura 14?

first of all, it was not adaptive as mentioned in the topic title.

it just halves the outline layer height and prints the second halve exactly on top.

Why its out? No idea, my best guess is Speed and simplicity. A balancing act between Speed and Quality

I still like it (and its options, different infill's, sequence in infill and outlines etc..) for small and/or tricky prints.

  7. I bought Simplify3D just after getting my UM2 - I thought Cura's reputation for poor support structures would be more of a problem than it has turned out (now I try to avoid the need for support, or add something manually).

The biggest problem was that it's locked to a single PC, hence not as flexible as say Cura. Even worse, every now and then the software would simply forget it had already been activated! (I suspect it had to do with me inserting a 3G USB wireless NIC whenever my ADSL landline was down, while disabling the internal ethernet NIC - thus changing the machine signature), and even worse it would then refuse to reactivate even after these hardware changes had been reversed: I had to email their tech support. Eventually they gave me a version that didn't need activation, so I can't complain about their tech support... but even so it left me wary about relying on it. I don't mind paying for software, in fact I kind of prefer it (I like the support rights it gives me)... but I hate dongled software in all its forms.

I have it installed on 2 computers, both can run Simplify3D simultaneously, pretty flexible I think?

Just installed it, and copied the serial they mailed me.

  8. Guys how long a print before you see it stop extruding because filament is gradualy working its way back up the bowden ?

I did a 5 hour print last night and all was fine...

In my case it was after a 2 or 3 hours with this print

    simply

A lot of retractions :(, on one point in the print it retracts more than it feeds, so when you choose the option 'only retract when crossing open spaces' you should be fine.

    Never happened again.

  9. Hi,

I found that -0.13 setting useful in helping to reduce the 'blobs' from the layer startpoint.

It might be better to check in advanced, the 'minimum travel distance for retraction' and set It on 3mm or something.

No idea what the standard travel distance is.

But printing the Monthly Challenge bracelet, I found after a few hours the filament halfway in the Bowden tube :(.

  10. Hi,

Check your belttension(s) and printhead bearings

Reduce the Travelspeed (75) and see what happens.

It seems to be worse when the head jumps from Island to Island.

I f you use a Ulticontroller, you can lower the acceleration settings.

  11. I just bought simplify3d because of the support feature design. I am having a big issue with it getting to print a good first layer. It seems that the extruder is not getting primed properly. Would anyone care to share their settings they are using with this software? UM2 I would sure appreciate it!!

    Hi,

same her, I only did a few prints on a UM1, but found (in my opinion) strange default settings on Extruder and layer tabs.

'The extrusion multiplier' should be at 100%. On the layer tab 'first layer height' should also be at 100% or more if you like.

  12. Bad article, good slicer. The print they showed from Slic3r simply shows that they don't know how to use Slic3r very well.

S3D is a bit obscure learning to use it, but it has features that make reproducible production of parts less of a PIA than others.

It does have a couple of quirks in re. sequential printing, and it does not have the ability to specify where to locate start/end points, like Kisslicer.

Overall, it's right up there with the three other good slicers (Cura, Kisslicer, and Slic3r), but is not free to use, and they unfortunately don't offer any sort of free trial, AFAIK.

I bought Simplify3D last week, after using Cura for 2 years, it takes some time to get used to it. But that's normal I guess, because I wanted more options and control over my prints.

I like the better control of the Infill (not visible from the outside), and the possibility to use different layer heights in a print

+ it has the ability to specify the startpoints of the layer, 3 options; Random,(no z-scar), Optimized for printspeed and closest to specified X,Y coordinate.
