  1. Hey there,

    Well, the age comes with its problems, as usual. It was quite a while since that red wire got loose, causing the fans to go off irregularly during printing, so I tried to push it back where it belongs.

    But the device was not turned off, and a tiny hair of the red wire probably touched exposed part of its black neighbour... A small spark, and the printed went silent, and remains so ever since.

    Do I have to replace the main board or there is something else to check? Life is harsh...

  2. Hmmm, while some shrinkage is normal, 3% seems to be a bit too much.

    Which version of Cura do you use? some 15.* versions are notorious on "shrinking" the sizes.

    Also, some PLA brands shrink more than others.

    If you are in for some tests, try to use older Cura 14 and dry the PLA as much as you can before usage. An hour in oven pre-heated to about 45-50C should suffice.

    That what I would do, anyways.

  3. Thanks guys, I knew that despite the forum's design, you can be relied upon.

    I put gluestick on the glass and continue with PLA prints (first time ever on a cold bed!), so far so good.

    However, with deep embarrassment I have to say that my electrical skills and understanding are sub-zero.

    I do not know what is pcb and how to test the electrical resistance. :( Not to say that no equipment for that exists in my house.

    However, my hands are mostly at the right place, so if you could point me out (maybe, with some pictures or drawings?), I will try to find my way.

  4. So, my 2.5 years old UM2 starts showing its age.

    The topic title tells it all. The display shows the current temperature (26C) and that doesn't change.

    No apparent damage, the device was staying all the time at the same place.

    Where shall I start looking?

    And all that when a few orders are waiting... Urgh!

  5. G'day mate,

    Again - for the PLA the glass bed should be 60C and clean.

    My glass is 2+ years old, damaged from one side (by Colorfabb XT), but this mantra always worked for me.

    No tool is needed unless you want to leave scratches on/in the glass surface. Once it cools down, prints come off by themselves.

    Printed the file in order to see whether to use the ferrite you sent me once.

    The stretchlet came out smooth, like your old one.

    There are some bad walls from time to time on my machine, however. So, I will follow the topic hoping to find a resolve.

    Since I have no dual-color upgrade, each color was printed separately, including the David stars.

    I t took quite a while to intersect them properly with the body and clean up all the mess. All that - in Sketshup which was constantly crashing due to the complexity of the mesh.

    That robot was scaled up to double size, i.e. - 200%. At the original size, even the .25 nozzle couldn't deliver the required quality of the stars.

  8. Recently I had a large area print which barely fit the glass.

    The interesting "feature" noticed was that the layers problem as well as the walls not touching problem was specifically happening mostly at far left area of the glass, whereas other areas had uniform fill and normal, solid walls.

    Since it was an order, I cannot make and publish photos.

    So it might be related to the rods, perhaps. Not sure. Hope, this information helps a bit.
