  1. That issue seems to be random...it doesn't always happen to me...but too often.

Another issue is that if you click in "unread posts" on a topic that you have never read before you are not taken to the first post...you are taken to the first reply...

Yeah, you are right, it is not always, I believe with more than 1 notification only.

And yes, first unread button to a topic you have never seen points you to the first reply instead of the actual first post. Also a bug mentioned since launch...

  2. Hi @Korneel, sorry to hear about the slow loading time on your side. Is it the forum overview page specifically that is slow (not the dashboard?)

That page is also really slow for me. @UltiArjan, how fast is the forum on your side? Is it slower in NL than it is at other places? (Nilrog, your feedback is also noted..)

The server migration should really have made it much faster. A bit disappointed about the results.. But outside of this, we're working on another solution from which I like to think it can not fail. I know we've tried many different things in the past already, the thing I like about it is that we invest time and money in trying to make the experience better, the fact we've only booked small results is not so nice. I can't say much about it yet but let's say there is light on the horizon.

for me it took that long this morning from the main homepage to go to the forum overview (so just click community > forum directly). it is making progress since it is only taking 8 seconds from clicking on the notification to get to this actual post.

I'm sorry about this @sandervg , but we are, what is it, 2 years in since the old (well working) forum was migrated to this and it still isn't working right...

It also took me 20 seconds to like this post

  3. Bump, we need more serious entries here! I mean I would love to win this, and see if I can hack it onto an UMO, but I'd need so much more stuff. Basically twice the extruder+hotend set.  And perhaps other electronics(running UMO and a HBK board).

So BUMP, get your game on people, there was so much interest, and now I am the only one "competing" with a fun entry!

You rant and rave here, link us to your additional ranting and raving blog...and delete Nallath's well-crafted reply/comment on it. You like to make a lot of noise but can't stomach a response.  Grow up.

Huh. Sorry but I certainly did remove no comment, I have never done so (but for occasional spam: neither Nallath nor Jaimie were ever spammers). For a few hours, the G+ comments were "disconnected" from blogger (and I consequently added a link to them, until they returned -- don't ask why..). Check e.g. Jaimie's useful answer, it is still there.

Ok, I guess I know what happened. I noticed people referring to the comment. Checked for myself, and it wasn't there. Therefore my conclusion was that it was removed.

However: As we know some wrong code took Amazon S3 servers down. The replies are apparently hosted there :p Causing it to show 0 replies.

Mystery solved :D Incredible how such a small error in a command can wreck havoc over the entire internet!

  5. Interesting, to say the least.

@SandervG, can you elaborate on how a form of Creative Common Non commercial share alike license isn't enough? Does it have to do with the way you can force competitors to stop/pay you?

How is Ultimaker positioned with respect to, let's say, an Olsson leveler? In the past we have seen very good improvements to Ultimakers come from the community, and even being sold(yes, also some copies, and ofcourse China clones...). I could have a great idea to improve your product, but never move to commercial prototyping/selling because at any moment Ultimaker can kill the company/investment.

How will the files be put on github, i.e. licensing?

Why UM3 leveling? What else are you guys planing to patent, existing techniques, new unknown techniques?

  6. Im interested in how heat conductivity was so dramatically altered from beta to final without changing the materials in use.

Surely by not having brass tot he tip some difference in heat conductivity is to be expected?

If everybody is running theirs hotter would be good to know, saves me continuously trying to search for and diagnose an issue I simply do not have.

I believe it had to do with the way the ruby is fixed in the nozzle. That got improved from beta to final.

  7. I believe consumables(think filament, nozzles, or in UM3s case Cores) are never covered under warranty.

Therefore the logical conclusion would be that it covers electronics, frame, bed, feeder etc. It would indeed be crazy if a customer would get the impression a broken frame is not fixable under warranty due to using ColorFabb plastic.

That being said, I know UM is nice and kind and will always try to help you. But it is the strange impression that matters to me, and others.

Furthermore it opens a door to NOT be kind, and that is something neither we, nor UM wants I think.

  8. I don't think it was done intentionally. I do know I was not part of the decision...

    Good to know!

Also (minor) thing: When you click the magnifying glass to search, I'd expect type focus in the search bar so I can type. Now I have to click in the type bar too.

Also I noticed that when you use your right and left arrowkeys the menu bar moves left and right, quite annoying when type somewhere on the site.

Oh and see my PM regarding the job offers page and UM User integration :p

  9.

Alright, I'll see how easy it is to only show a blue bubble when there are notifications and no bubble if there is nothing. I guess the blue bubble catching your eye works best if it is not always there. For the time being.. the '0' that is in it, could also be an indication for the amount of new replies waiting for you ;)

    +1 million for this ;)

This change is a huge step backwards in accessibility...as it was never there before unless you had unread notifications.

I don't understand why one would change this intentionally... If it is the result of a bug, sure, fine, I hope you find it :) But if it is design, why on earth :p?

  10. @Titus, haven't heard from you in a while. Was starting to get worried ;)

    How have you been?

And overall I wished that we would not have trait one annoying thing for another, how about no spam, and no errors?

Anyway, after a passionate discussion, it has given top priority to fix. So I am hoping on a sunny day tomorrow with a blue sky. Sky. No more blue screens.

Multiple things, mainly study though. Currently looking into jobs to see what I'd like to do when I'm finished around May ;)

I haven't been printing for a while now, I do open the forums everyday, but only to follow topics I was following before, no new topics. Still available for opinions on things though.

Just keeping up with some discussion on cores and nozzles. The developments in 3d printing land still interest me ;)

It used to be without blue balloon though Sander, so it should be easy to revert ;)

Long replies lost due to errors bring back sad memories :(

    Hi Mark,

    Thank you for your reply.

What is it exactly what you mean by 'solved', in regard to the search? Is it not working for you yet? As far as I know, and feel free to correct me if I am wrong, the search works pretty good now.

About the badge system, regardless of how high I try to push the community, sometimes I have to admit it is also a part within Ultimaker, just as many others. We have only one team of developers and in this context, it means that sometimes the planning is being altered and some plans are given priority over other plans.

Currently, the team is doing some needed maintenance to the site (and have been for a little bit longer) and fixing large parts of the code (I am not a developer myself so I can't really go in depth here.)

This has a large priority over other things if we want to have a healthy website which is ready for the future.

Maybe you have experienced it, but in the beginning of the week we made some 'improvements' to the site, and this resulted in some unexpected bugs to the forums. There are some 500 errors, and I know some users have some difficulties posting replies or new topics. Which is pretty bad for a forum..

On top of the existing workload to do the maintenance, they are now also busy trying to reproduce these bugs and fix them. This all accumulates to, among other things, the badges which was once pretty high on the agenda, to be pushed back.

To get more in depth on the badge topic, there is a proposal with our designer in regard of the new badges, what they are suppose to look like. Maybe you don't really care about it, but I don't think they should take much longer.

Applying them will be mostly manual work for me. So until it is automated (that timeline is unclear for now), I will try to be as conclusive as possible and appoint badges and points to everyone who deserves them! If I miss something, by all means, send me a line or tag me, and I will come to the rescue!

Not ideal, but I am trying to row with the oars that are given to me..

    - by the way, the points should now match the badges, don't they?

The trick is to reply to someone, rather than posting something new in a topic I believe.

    Test test

    confirmed. Quoting works!

500 errors posting... please revert to before update

Also, I dislike the blue balloon with 0 notifications. A blue balloon = notifications for me. Now I find myself clicking it and being disappointed :(

  14. I somehow missed the post, but as I said earlier, the old system was kinda useless. This is already way better @SandervG! I'm curious to see what the perks will be :)

Having another look at the new titles I think there can still be small improvements. For example if someone who has a lot of experience in 3D printing with UMs joins the forum. He will be an expert on things, while his status will 'lag' behind so to speak.

Not sure how to fix that though.

There are potentially some interesting opportunities in beta-testing, meeting the Ultimaker team and getting global recognition by being featured!

Can haz UM friend status *puppy eyes* :D? Also, perhaps even more important, you mentioned beta testing :p? You guys know I'm always in for that, though I'm not as active as I have been. But I believe you used the points as an indication of the more active and awesome community members to select for beta, rather than giving them points for it :p

    Anyway, keep it up!
