  1. Most of my filament is 1.69mm.. But some is 1.8mm. I used to obsessively set my filament diameter depending on which colour I am printing.. But I soon forgot and have not experienced any ill-effects. So I now have it set at 1.7 and its been fine... So it looks like I am one of the 10% who don't
  2. Whilst on this subject, is there any chance that we will ever see a different Printer Interface? With more functionality? As you know I want a Pause button and HATE going to Repetier to do the jobs that I need this feature. I have zero problems with USB printing on 2 lap tops and 1 desktop printer that I use.. Not one failure that I can't explain.. But I accept that certain combinations of hardware/software might cause problems, so my situation may not be typical. Since you have so many problems with USB, I fear that you will drop USB support altogether, in favour of an "SD Card" model... And just want to check that USB will continue in its current (or better) form. jon
  3. Cheers. how does one get a feature like this integrated into the product so that its automatically contained in each release? Does Daid have to back this and 'adopt' the fix? I would like to think this could be considered as its a really nice and useful feature. Jon
  4. I want to start looking at the v15 RCs. Will your single layer view mod work in 15?
  5. I had something similar when i had a head blockage. Soi was only extruding a fraction of what was needed abd as a reult the prints were porous.
  6. Cheer pm_dude.. You are awesome!!... Edit: Just tested it in 14.12 ( as I havn't upgraded to 14.12.1 as I think this is just a Firmware change) and its great.. Exactly what I wanted. Thanks again and happy Christmas.. .Daid.. Any chance this could be 'maintained' and added to future releases? Or will we have to get pm_dude to update it after each release? Jon
  7. Doh.. That explains why I found that it initially worked and then stops.. Clearly the more I tested it, the worse it got, as I was in the layer view whilst it was slicing whilst obsessing over this. I have now let it slice and then switched to the layer view, and can see the "pause". So panic over.. Its not a big deal. Cheers.
  8. Firmware? I am not even trying to print.. I am just looking at the Layer view in CURA.. When its working, you can see the blue line shoot off to the co-ordinates you set.. But when its not, the plugin appears to do nothing...
  9. I have just loaded a fairly small model (100K) and set it to 1mm layers (just to make the maths easy).. If I then choose a random "Pause At Height" value, and then look at the layer view for it, the 'pause' simply doens't happen. If I then go back to 14.09 its fine.. So unless there is something wrong at my end, this should be an obvious fault.
  10. "Pause at Height".. The one which comes bundled... It seems to work fine on a simple model.. But as soon as you load something a little more complexed (not much I have to say) it just stops working.... Could someone do a quick test and verify the behavior? Jon
  11. The only Output file I can find is under c:\users\Cura, called "Output_log.txt" And it shows nothing: Listening for engine communications on 49674 Closing down
  12. It appears that 14.12 and 15.01 are the same.. If I load "FIrst Cube" and play around, I can pause at any layer. And it works first time, ever time. But if I load something more complicated.. The pause doesn't happen.. If I restart CURA.. And load the object again, sometimes it works the FIRST time, but if I re-slice it, it stops. It just seems that in 14.12 onwards, the Pause plugin is simply ignored, for anything more than a very simple object.
  13. I am using the "Pause At Height" plugin, which in 14.09 worked flawlessly. But today I am trying it in 15.0RC1, and it initially works, and then stops. If i set to 0.1mm layers (just for easy maths), and then use the "Pause At Height" plugin at 1mm.. When I wait to the Toolpath appears, I can see the blue line move off a layer 8 (not sure why not 10, but thats not the issue) If I then move the piece.. Or rotate it.. Or something.. And then wait, the 'pause' is never shown.. The object is sliced and the Plugin apparantly ignored. I tried with 14.12 and it seems to work better.. But after a few re-slices it stopped. Then I went back to 14.09 and it works every time... Considering that you had some plugin issues after 14.09, I wonder if this is a remnant of those issues? Jon
  14. There s also an option for minimum print speed, which over-rides this option. (Look under advanced options) If you want to let small layers cool, there is also,an option to do "cool head lift" which will stop printing between the layers until the time you set is reached, but this can lead to "oozing" whilst it waits. You just need to find the sweet spot by playing with these 3 options.
  15. Good stuff.. I look forwards to seeing what you have come up with. Cheers
  16. Did you get anywhere with the single layer view? I wasn't sure from your comments whether it was something you were going to try and deliver pretty quickly? Jon
  17. Interesting.. So the stringing we are talking about, would be in the open (and visible) spaces in a model, rather than the inside where the "infill" goes? When ever I have seen 'stringing' I have found that a sharp knife just flicks it off.. But perhaps I havn't seen it yet.. So the idea is that Combing is good, to stop stringing.. But bad in terms of surface quality. This is why people want combing off on the outside/top/bottom of a print.. But on, for the rest of it?
  18. I am sorry to ask this, but could someone explain what combing is, and perhaps show some photos of the benefits/disadvantage. I understand combing (atleast I think I do).. Is it where the head will avoid going over spaces in the print... But why does this cause a problem? I assume this is because you get 'stringing' in the void? But why is this a problem.. That can be easily removed. Am I right in thinking that the 'scaring' is caused by combing, as the head travels across previously printeed parts and thats is harder to fix. I think I understand the basics of this, but struggle to understand the "real world impact" Can anyone shed any light on this? Jon
  19. Thanks Daid.. I am under no illusion that this is a simple fix.. This is down to the "logic" of they way that CURA slices and changing this, even if it could be done, would surely have a MASSIVE knock on effect. My problem is simply that when CURA layers the perimeters down in one pass, my extruder often doens't lay the first few mms.. So the 'shape' that it creates is left open. This is why CW helps, as it does several "laps" for each perimeter, closing them, even if the first pass wasn't complete. Increasing the first line width certainly did something.. But it still leaves shapes open with a blob.. And they can still snag.. I have tried slowing down.. But the problem remains.. As it layes a shape, it often extrudes are for a few mms. In truth, I think this is a problem with the design of my printer, than an issue with the software.. But it just seems that the way CW went about their first layer logic, helps for people like me. Jon
  20. Tried increasing the first layer "line width" and it didn't really help.. I have to agree with Tony about the cause of the issue, as his video shows exactly what I see. BUT. I have to distance myself from the 'way' that he is going about this, as I recognise CURA for what it is.. And thats 'free'.. Anything you give us is a courtesy, so I just have to hope that you recognise this as an issue, and have a plan to address it at some point in the future. Jon
  21. AHha..Cheers.. i knew I didn't dream it.. Just misunderstood the feature. thanks..
  22. Did I make this up? Was there a feature after 14.09 which would move the layer change point for each layer so that there wasn't an obvious seem? I was sure I read this in one of the releases.. But last night I was printing some tubes and there was an obvious seam running straight along the tube... Did I make this up? Dream it?? Jon
  23. Thanks Daid.. I will do just that.. I completely overlooked this option and have never played with it to see what effect it has... I tried Craftworks and its nice.. But it can't print directly to my Printrbot, so its little use for me (And I don't want to go down the GCODE/SD route). Fingers crossed.. This helps. Jon
  24. Tony.. Please keep debating this.. As you know I share the same issue/concerns and I don't have the knowledge or words to express my views.. I just know that I see exactly the same issue as you have demonstrated and its driving me nuts. I am more than happy with a workaround.. But using Hairspray isn't an option for me, as removing the parts is already difficult enough... I don't think my problem is adhesion.. Its just that the perimeters are not 'closed' and the open ends have 'blobs' which catch on the next pass.. Thats why I believe that doing a few laps for each perimeter would be a good solution. But I don't believe this is easy to fix and dont' expect anything to happen in CURA, so workaround is my only option!
