  1. Hi,

I wanted to start now to replace the pulleys and found out something more.

On moving the printhead by hand I could see one of the Y-shafts (Part-No. 1011 8mm x 348mm) is not straight. The sliding block moves up and down a littlebit so I think I heave to replace it as well.

Can I get one directly from Ultimaker company?

If not does anybody know where to buy one?

    Thanks...

  2. Hi ultiarjan,

thanks, I checked the xy axes now and they are completely straight.

I got some new pulleys now and coming weekend hopefully I will find some time to exchange the original ones.

Is there anything to consider before I replace the original ones?

E.g. what I have to consider to not damage anything?

Thanks for any experiences you can share...

  3. @gudo: thanks, just to make it clear the 'weeeeweeeeweeee' I can hear if I move the head with my hand. Each 'weeee' exactly follows one turn of the axis. I normally would expect a 'weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew' if I move the head from front position to back position. But it is not it is this 'weeeeweeeeweeeeweeee'.

I don't have problems with layer height. I have problems with not touching top layers. If I take a close look at my top layer there are regions which are closed like expected. But a few milimeters before or after the lines ar not closed they do not touch and small gaps appear. This is repeatable so if I print again then the gaps appear always at same position on the printbed.

Then I measured the diamater of the string coming out of the nozzle using a digital caliper and it has a diameter of only .35 instead 0.4. Reducing the nozzle size setting in Cura from 0.4 to 0.35 improved the top layer quality already significantly.  But still there are gaps here and there.

I assume this has mechanical reasons. Not centered pulleys cause the head move a bigger or smaller distance and not a homogenous/linear distance which I think could be the problem. If two or more pulleys are not centered then the error will sum up further.

  4. Hi tommy,

thanks - I already found this shop yesterday as well using Google.

But since it is located in China I doubt about the quality.

They offer also the dual pulley, but I know neither the brand of the pulleys nor the quality.

I also have no experience ordering goods from outside Europe.

What about customs clearing and fees etc?

  5. Hi tommy,

    thanks anyway.

I contacted Misumi already but they sell only to business partners and not to private persons like me :-(.

Does anybody know where to get Misumi pulleys (especially the dual one) as a private person in Germany or Europe?

What other brands are known to provide best quality pulleys?

  6. Hi tommyph1208,

thanks for reply, that helped me to go one step further ;-).

You said 'misumi or similar'. Could you tell me what you mean with similar?

Do you know brands which produce high quality pulleys beneath Misumi?

What about the UM2 dual pulley - who provides this one in good quality?

    Thanks again...

  7. Hi,

I found out that the pulleys of my UM2 are not centered and the axes.

It seems the inner diameter of the pulleys is a littlebit bigger than the diameter of the axes.

Since there is only one screw in the pulleys there is no way to center the pulleys.

If I move the print head by hand I can hear a different noise every 360 degree of the pulleys. Something like 'weeeeeweeeeeweeeee'.

Since I still have problem with not touching top layer I want to replace them completely.

    - Are there any UM2 pulleys available which fit better onto the axes?

    - Could you recommend any?

    - What is the correct name of the pulleys?

    - Do I have to replace the belts as well?

    - Does anybody have experience with replaced pulleys on UM2?

    Thanks for any help...

  8. Hi,

I face the same problem with not centered pulleys on my UM2 X-Y axises.

If I move the head by hand I can hear a noise something like 'vvvvvvVVVVVvvvvvvvVVVVVvvvvvVVVV' as 'snowygroach' posted.

I feel the main reason is that the inner diameter of these pulleys is a littlebig bigger than the axis shaft diameter and the second reason is that there is only one screw to fix the pulley at the axis. So I want to give it a try and replace them.

Can somone tell me what are the correct pulleys for my UM2 (No. of teeth, inner diameter, etc.) and where I can buy those in Germany or Europe?

    Thanks a lot!

  9. Hi gr5,

thanks for reply. I wonder why the result is that bad. I use Autodesk Fusion 360 to create my items and export at STL - I never had probelms with it.

thanks for the tip using the X-Ray view may this is a good indicator.

I never used x-ray view only layer view.

    Thanks a lot!

  10. Hi,

I have some strange problem with an item as you can see in the image here:

    rmthQii.jpg

At a certain Z-position (around 9.5 mm) the item gets not printed very.

This happens always at the same height. I tested this 3 times and the problem occurs always at the same height.

Then I thought there is something wrong with my UM2 at this height so I printed a testcube.

But as you can see (marked with the blue arrow) the cube prints well that means eversthing is OK with my UM2.

I looked at the gcode but could not fine any abnormal things except that at layer 87 the infill pattern gets more dense.

Then at layer 97 it switches back to previous density. Could this be the reason?

I printed this using Cura 15.09.90.

    Thanks for any help!

    The STL-file is here:

    The gcode file is here:

  11. Hi,

I created a STL file with Autodesk Fusion 360. The simple part has a height of exact 1mm in Fusion 360.

Then I exported it as STL file.

If I slice it now using Cura 15.09.90 it just gets 8 layers. Layer height I set to 0.1 mm.

So the height of my part would be 0.8 mm instead of 1.0. :-(

Why I only get 8 layers and not 10? With old Cura 15.02.01 it is the same - only 8 layers.

Here I uploaded the test STL file.

    Test STL

    Thanks!

BTW: Why this UM forum does not provide a uplaod function for e.g. STL, Cura files etc.?

  12. Hi,

why the drills are not the best to test?

I measured the diameter of the drill with my digital caliper:

    0.3mm drill measured: 0.29mm

    0.4mm drill measured: 0.39mm

I have 4 of each drill and all show same diameter, so I think I can trust it quite well.

BTW what is the difference of the E3D nozzles compared to the JET nozzles?

  13. Hi,

I only ordered from 3DSolex no other supplier. I think it was this summer, may July or August.

Apart from that I never ordered any nozzles, so mixing up could not have happened.

I also really wondered about that 0.3mm.

I found it out, because a few days ago I finally could built in my Olsson block.

And then I wanted to get the 0.4mm nozzle fro 1st test print. But since there is nothing printed on the nozzles to see what diameter they have I just used my tiny drills to find it out.

And at that time I figured out that 0.3 mm drill fits through while 0.4 mm don't. - Strange :-|

OK, I will contact Swordriff when he's back...

  14. Hi Dim3nsioneer,

I didn'n know that swordriff is on holiday so thanks for your help.

All my 4 nozzles look like the first image and I ordered together with the Olsson block from 3Dsolex.com.

    I have 1 x 0.8mm, 2 x 0.4 mm and one I don't know really.

I think it should be 0.25 mm, but I tested and by hand I could insert a 0.3mm drill but 0.4 mm drill did not fit. Can it be that is 0.3mm?
