  1. The gauge is used to get accurate bed leveling (especially when new to 3D printing - I don't use it much any more). That doesn't mean a slight adjustment won't still be necessary, but it's a really good starting point. I also treat each first layer thickness the same from a leveling perspective.

I use the gauge so the first layer will be exactly what you request from Cura. If you level the bed to 0.1mm while it is set to 0.1mm Z height, then you get a precise height. Again, fine adjustment may still be needed. So yes, probably +/- 50 microns or so.

It can be important for proper bed adhesion when no heated bed is present. I agree with the overthinking, but as a beginner it is one of the many things a person must get a feel for. Then it isn't complicated or difficult to adjust realtime.

Thanks for your explain, I harvest a lot.

  2. I only plan to enlarge the internal diameter, keep the external diameter unchanged, which will make the plastic thinner, so won't jam?

In fact, I get a spool of 2.85mm filament yesterday from the sole seller (who sells 2.85mm filament ), but the quality seems not good enough, because I get jam in the PTEE isolater coupler 4 times. Each time I have to move the coupler out and clean it.

I'm sad to say this but it's truth that many things are made in China, but not sold in China, we have to buy from foreign countries.

You said that so much stuff is produced here, could you give some examples? So may be helpful for me to get 2.85mm filament.

Thank you for your help, as always.

  3. Just to check. Are you sure that the filament is truly 3mm? 2.85mm is usually advertised as "3mm" if it is meant for 3d printers. If you're buying random plastic filament meant for other purposes than that's a different story.

Yes, I'm quite sure about this, the sellers also confirmed this.

Almost all China made FDM 3D printers are designed to use 1.75mm/3.0mm filament (as I know), so currently no one sells 2.85mm filament here.

    I also confused about this...

And I'm going to print your feeder, thanks so much.
