I think if you wanted to use a pen for making something serious you would need to be OCD or Autistic.

I am and I do use it for serious work 🙂 Just last week, I had to use it to weld some parts together where there was a gap and the pen was the only way to really get it filled and sealed.

Can you weld Nylon together or just stick

I am not sure what you mean by 'just stick'. I have not tried to weld Nylon before, but, it is a plastic and as far as I know, all plastics can be welded.

Same on my Ultimaker 3 with 5.2.11

The UM3 series did not and still does not have a feeder detection. So, it would not be expected to notify you when you run out or fail to feed filament.

  4. If the nozzle remains in an area too long, it will retain heat on the printed parts, thus issues with the melting shown above.

Those little tiny things I printed were several in the print environment while printing. That is how I got the really, super tiny coiled ' tube on on of the lab beakers.

They may look rough, but I am so zoomed into the part that it shows all the flaws. But it looks much better in real life.

    edit:

Oh yeah, and when I am printing things like that, I am telling the line width to be 0.28 or 0.26 with the 0.4 nozzle.

  5. This was posted on the 4.1 beta theread, but since I am not sure if it is firmware or software creating this issue, I am posting it here as well.

4.0 and 4.1 both do not produce the checked off 'prime blob' for extruder 2 on the S5. Once checked, it will print the Extruder 1 blob, but not the Extruder 2 blob.

This has been checked on the latest firmware, so I am not sure what the disconnect is....Cura or firmware.

And, while on the subject of prime blobs, Please, please, please make this consistent for all printers. In my instance, it is on by default for the UM3E and off for the S5.

    Consistency would be nice.

When it comes to small mechanical parts, I feat that SLA beats FDM hands-down.....

Yeah, I would agree, but I think most would agree.

Although my prints are not usually mechanical in nature, I do sometimes make small things.

A while back I printed up a series of parts for a much larger scene. This is a picture of a bunch of 'lab equipment' pieces. They may look really so-so in the picture, but that is because it is so close on such small objects. The comparison object is a U.S. nickel. Even at 0.1 layer heights, some of the objects are only 50 layers in height.

I don't think you really want automatic updates.

Bad scenarios when you have auto-updates working.

    1. Switching out the prints, on a tight schedule, need a reslice, and it is not slicing the same way.

    2. Metered connections. Unfortunately, I am on one such animal now and it is a bitch to keep within the 'data usage budget' with all the crap sites though in these days. I would not want to be on the cusp and have that silly upgrade happen just a few days prior with another Pain in the Ass program. And, yes, it has happened with me. So, no speculation there.

That is just two off the top of my head based on real world situations I have seen.

So, I agree that there is a bit of a worry with auto updates. Oh, and I just do not want a program making decisions for me because it does not know what else is going on. Microsoft and Win 10 have shown me the issues with that crap.

  9. Just upgraded the S5 via USB and it worked. Got a bit nervous there a few times when the screen would go blank for a long time, or when the progress bar seemed to not be moving. But, it did complete, and am running the first print off the S5 with the new firmware. We will see.......🤞

BUT! It STILL came back to "Confirm removal" upon both sets of upgrades and the final booting of the last part. While not a game stopper, it is still dorky to see it keep displaying that when in fact it has been selected many, many times that the print has been removed.

Hopefully it will go away with a new start-finish-remove-confirm cycle to be completed.

But, not bricked and the print is happening. And, in MY little corner of the stupidverse, that is a good thing 🙂 Just hope the print is solid.

And, the new print was sliced with the new 4.1 Beta.
