I am looking for someone preferably in UK who can build some mechanical parts for me. I don't have drawings yet until I know I can find somebody who is willing to do this. The first part I need is an approximately conical spindle tapering from 2cm diameter at the thin end, and 15 cm at the thick end, with a deep spiral groove in it which a rope will go into. This needs to be pretty strong. Cosmetic appearance is not important. It needs to be strong, so while not necessarily solid, it will need a supporting structure inside, maybe spokes.

This is a personal not a commercial project. I'd obviously be willing to pay for materials consumed, and something for your time. If anybody is interested in working with me on this I'd appreciate an email to ianpanderson@yahoo.com

I'm not in the UK but if I was, I'd be asking how tall the object is and why it needs to be strong? What sort of forces are you going to put on it? Like, does it just need to survive a drop from 5ft up or does it need to support a person standing on it sorta thing?
