Can I use a v1 nossle in a v2 hotend setup ?

I have an extra v1 nossle and was wondering, is there any way, I can use this with my new v2 hotend setup.

Just to know if I could use it as a backup ?

Could i for example put in the old copper pipe from the PEEK, use a metal saw to cut it short to the right lenght, screw it into the v1 nossle and the other side, into the Block ?

Could that work ?

Ian :)

I wouldn't try it. The V1 nozzle is longer, and you might end up with a short piece of brass inside of your heater block when you try to remove it.

ok nessesity is the mother of invention and because I have to get things printed now and am still waiting for my replacement nossle and copper pipe. I had to be a little creative.

So my ultimaker 2 is now running with every thing from a v2 head, but with the original v1 nossle from my first v1 ultimaker hot end.

    and it works :-)

quite well actually and to test, I have taken off the nossle and put it back 5 times yesterday evening, just to see that it comes apart ok and.... super.

so my ultimaker 2 is a little mutant but a good working mutant ! :-)

I wanted a larger diameter nozzle and didn't want to wait for/buy another one when I had the old V1 nozzle sitting right there. I did just as you said, except I put another nut on the brass tube between the nozzle and the block to create more of a lock between the tube and the nozzle, to avoid the potential nozzle twist off with the tube still in the block that Daid is referring to. I also have been quite happy with the results...

yeah, I can only assume it's something to do with the larger head.

essentially what this means is that anyone with a V1 can get the latest and greatest merely by adding one teflon insert and one blue clip. you can even skip the teflon insert (I had mine floating in air instead) as long as you can align the end of the tube with the start of the barrel.

This is all interesting, as I am very soon going from 1 to 2 hotends, I see the possibility to copy this approach.

Although I am not quite the wiser as to what might be happening here thats making it work so well.

Nor I SG, but I was not liking the tweaking I was having to do to get the flow right in my V2 and figured I would just toss the opened up nozzle in there and see what happens. I was very pleasantly surprised! I haven't checked things out but the two theories I would have would be the V2 nozzle has a shorter overall height, perhaps the internal chamber has the same steeper taper that the outside has, thus changing the flow slightly. The second would be, particularly with my setup with an extra nut on the brass tube, that you are creating a larger molten PLA reservoir. That may lead to a more consistent flow from printhead???

Here's my setup btw... Messy since I didn't clean the print head off before snapping the pic but it conveys what's going on...
