I have been using the ultimaker to printing many models. Now I want to lubricate my axes. But from the user manual I found that for X/Y axes, I must use the sewing machine oil, but for Z axes, the grease included in the package is fine. I just a little curious why the sewing machine oil is a MUST for X/Y axes. Thank a lot.

    x/y and head x/y oil yes. The two z smooth NOTHING at all or the linear bearings of the bed will get problems as soon it dry inside and will block them (z banding) and for the Z middle one (the one not smooth that it's from the z motor) just lube.

    Many reasons

    It needs thin oil as they have sintered bearings which are porous and absorb the thin oil.

    If grease is used then they will gum up.

    Dust will also stick to the grease and make it worse.

    The axis move fast and grease will put to much strain on them, where the x axis just rotates a small amount.
