Cura 2.3 and Z hop only on skirt - Normal Quality Profile

Hi

I have just updated to Cura 2.3

I always use Z hop as many of my parts have a flat top surface and Z hop avoids any marking of the surface.

I have just run the first job and got a surface mark. I examined the file and the Z hop is active on the skirt only. Any idea why this is? I see that Z hop works with Retraction which is enabled. What causes retraction? Have I missed a setting in the profile?

Regards

Ian

Z-HOP isn't activated by default when you print, only for retractation.

Just go Settings > Manage Settings visibility and search for "Z" in the searchbar.

Then check the line for "Z-HOP only over printed parts"

    Tell us if it's ok ! (:

    Many thanks.

That helps but there is still no Z hop in many layers.

You can check this by opening file and searching for Z.

    Example from beginning of file:-

    G0 X64.289 Y86.981

    G10

    G1 Z1.27 ; Z 1 mm hop

    G0 F2880 X64.318 Y136.09 Z1.27

    G1 Z.27

    G11

Example from last layer in file:-

    G0 F7200 X68.805 Y86.129

    G1 F1332 X69.391 Y86.716 E11681.00058

    G0 X69.452 Y86.777

    ;TIME_ELAPSED:12541.418602

    ;LAYER:37

    G0 F7200 X69.353 Y86.875 Z3.97 ; only reference to Z in the layer

    ;TYPE:WALL-INNER

    G1 F2400 X69.357 Y87.188 E11681.01154

I suspect this is because retract controls Z hop and presumably there is no retract.

Can you force retract to prove this?

I am not sure because I cannot see retract distance.

(This setting has been hidden by the values of gcode flavour, Enable Retraction. Change the values of those settings to make this setting visible) I do not understand what that means.

If I could set retract to say 1mm I could easily see that in the file.

    What controls retract?

    Regards

    Ian
