UM Original Controller Fan

Hi there

i have 2 Ultimakers

1 Original and 1 Original Plus.

I hate the board fan from the original (w/o plus)

Is there a way to remove this crappy fan und cool the steppers somehow else?

or can i just unplug the fan?

Is it really necessary?

They get pretty hot, and when they get to hot, they miss a step. So yeah the fan is needed. Depending on how it sounds it would payoff to peel the sticker off and put a drop of sewing oil in. That solves quite some rattling sounds, but the fan sound itself will stay.

Optionally you can try to find another fan with the same cooling potential and mod it somehow.

yeah i've put in some skateboard speed creme which helped a lot. but as you said: the fan is still "there" :-/

Played aroud a bit with a combination of 2 40x40mm low noise fans from PC modding and also similar sized blowers, but up to now I can´t find something silent with enough airflow and reliable.

You can find a few attempts on Youmagine or Thingiverse but I fear (from my perspective), the one in is well greased the best of the bad...
