welcome to the forums! In the reelholder of the Ultimaker 3 is an NFC scanner, and it should read the tag in the new Ultimaker filament reels. They are white, and you should be able to see the tag in a cardboard insert.
Have you been able to read other materials, except PLA?
Are you sure the cable is properly inserted, as instructed in the manual?
