New home Origin for z-axis

Hi,

I'm doing some tests that have meant I needed to add a 2mm piece of perspex over the printer bed, so I need to re calibrate the origin of the z-axis on the Ultimaker. I have read about changing this in the G-code since the set origin feature has been removed, but as this is a more permanent change I was hoping for a different/more permanent solution. Wondering if anyone has managed to permanently change the home origin of the z-axis and any advice on how to do so?

Thanks!

The z=0 home is set by the position of the end-stop switch in the top back left corner of the printer. Just manually position the bed where you want it, and then adjust the position of that switch so that it just clicks in the new position. It's a little difficult to adjust it finely - you may want to get it just about right by moving the switch, and then fine tune it by adjusting the screws in the corner of the bed - if you still have those in your new configuration.

Alternatively, if you search on thingiverse, there are several different designs for z-height adjusters that allow for easier control of the z-switch height and/or the point at which it gets triggered.

Be careful adjusting the end stop as the the threading on the limit switches is notoriously fragile, and easy to strip.

You also might have to extend the two slots that hold the end switch down a little further. You could use a dremmel, or a small file, or a saw or a router bit in a drill.
