Posted · Generating support for two overlapping overhangs with small X/Y distance

Hello everyone,

I'm new to 3d printing, and I desperately need your help with a specific model issue...

It seems Cura is not able to generate support for an overhang over another overhang, with very little X/Y gap between them. I have tried tweaking the X/Y minimum support gap and Z gap as well, with no success.

I don't think I'm making it clear (sorry english is not my native language), but those two screenshots should be self-explanatory, or at least I hope so..

Thank you for your time and help !

    Hey there,

As I understand it you're trying to get support generated in the space between the gripper? First things first - what version of Cura are you using?

Have you set 'Support Placement' to 'Everywhere', or 'Touching Buildplate'? You'll find this setting in Custom mode.

If you've already checked that, the best thing to do is send over a .zip containing .3mf file here, and then I can look in detail and try and reproduce the issue.

    Hey Maht,

    I'm using Cura 4.4.0 on Windows 10 64 bits.

What I exactly want to achieve is to have support generated for the small tip under the upper "blade" you can see in the first screenshot (the small red part on the right of the picture).

Support placement is indeed set to 'Everywhere'.

I'm posting the .3mf zip file right now.

Thank you for your help !

Thank you Burtoogle, you made my day !

I'll be printing it with this settings as soon as I can, and post back the result.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
