UMS5 - Wifi Network feature is unavailable

I went through a period about a month ago where my S5 kept wanting to upgrade the firmware. It was happening almost daily sometimes more than once per day. It never said it failed to update so I assumed that there was an issue and a bunch of patches to fix said issue. The problem is that it culminated with my machine having the WIFI feature disabled, as in the option to turn on WIFI is grayed out. I tried manually updating the firmware, resetting to factory settings, resetting Ultimaker Connect, nothing worked. Since the middle of December we have had to use sneakernet to print on our $4500 machine. Any ideas out there?

Thanks,

Chris

    Hi

The WiFi on these printers is a bit "challenged" in terms of holding a connection. It's not only on the S5, the UM3's have the same problem. A wired Ethernet connection seems to be the better choice ....

I wish they'd acknowledge and fix their WiFi.  With as bad as it is, there's really no point in saying it has it.  I opened a ticket with them and they blamed my network...

I second this - I have a dedicated wifi router for my 3D printers, that is located very close to the printers and the computer, and the printers (S3 and S5) weren't able to hold a connection to Cura for more than a few minutes at best. Reverting to ethernet fixed this (mostly). For contrast, my Duet powered machine that is connected to the same router can be contacted anytime, from anywhere, no problems.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
