Posted · Cura 4.5 doesn't open zipped files like 4.4.1?

I downloaded Cura 4.5, updating from 4.4.1 and I have found out through trial and error that 4.5 doesn't open zipped files like 4.4.1 and the other versions did. What I have found out is you must unzip the files first, then start 4.5 and open the file from the unzipped location. Did I do something wrong?

I just tested this and I was able to load an stl from an zipped archive (by opening the archive and dragging and dropping the stl). I was also able to load gcode.gz by just dragging and dropping (with no archive open).

What's the expected behavior for you? Do you have some more specific reproduction steps for this? The model you're trying to load with would also be useful.

We have a dedicated thread for 4.5 issues, might be better to post there.

Do I need to remove Cura 4.4.1 then? Because all my files start cura 4.4.1.

No, you can have as many Cura installations side-by-side as you like. Assuming you are running Windows, your installations will be stored in %APPDATA%\cura\<Cura version>

You can back up your 4.4.1 folder if you are worried about losing settings. If you are running multiple versions, be sure to not ask to uninstall previous versions when installing a new version.

I am asking this because it's incredibly hard to debug your issue without some data to work with. So if you can provide the file that is not working for you, and some reproduction steps, I can test it under the correct conditions and verify if it's a bug or not.

Here are the Steps I take

download the file I want to print

double left click the zipped file, it opens the files

double left click the item I want to print

Cura 4.4.1 automatically opens and the object

Cura 4.5 update does not ask to remove the previous version it just downloads and doesn't update I have manually install this version.

    Thanks for the help

Thanks for the reproduction steps, can you also upload the zipped file you're trying to work with?

I just tested this and if you use the MSI installer, it won't prompt to uninstall previous versions. However the exe installer will.

Shouldn't matter in this case. You'll find an "Ultimaker Cura 4.5" install directory in your program files directory in Windows.

I am having the same issue.  when I double click on any STL file whether its in a zip or not, it will not automatically open with 4.5 like it did with any previous version.   I even try to right click, open with but does not have cura 4.5 listed as an option.

Did you use the MSI installer? If so, use the EXE installer (like before).

The main download page only let me download the MSI installer.  I had to search in previous versions, 4.5, and found the EXE installer.  Tested and works great now.  Thank you

Go to https://ultimaker.com/software/ultimaker-cura.   Click on find previous versions.  Click on 4.5.0 and scroll all the way to the bottom and you will find the EXE file

THANK YOU ALL for the answers to MY problem, Huxtamillion I did as you said found the .EXE file loaded, associated the STL files with the right version of Cura and all is GREAT. Thanks again.
