Cura slows to a crawl while slicing at about 25%

I'm new to cura, so I may just be ignorant as to the setting I need to fiddle with.

I'm trying to print a large helmet on my new CR10v3.  I've fiddled with a lot of settings, but every thing I've tried has the same end result.

I've tried disabling the firewall, I've tried disabling windows defender.  I've reinstalled Cura with and without these programs up.  But every time, the slicer dies at about 25%.  While the slicer is running, it takes up pretty much 100% of the cpu run time.  However, when the slicer hits 25%, the cpu usage drops to about 9%.

The slicer then slows to an absolute crawl

What next?
