Posted · What causes this?

We have this issue with support material adhering to the prints as seen in the photos below. I'm not too familiar with common 3d printer issues but from what I understand, it looks like the PLA is under-extruding and the support material is filling in the gap. Are there some recommended settings to prevent this from happening?
