Cura 5.0 Linux on Chromebook Won't Open or Save files

Help...

I've upgraded from 4.13.1 (which worked faultlessly), to version 5.0.0 the program runs and starts ok! But the open button does nothing! However you can drag and drop a .STL file and it opens it and it slices it fine, however the "save to disc" button (for the GCODE file) again does nothing.. making the program useless.

It's running the ./Filename.AppImage in Linux on a New ASUS Chromebook.

I've tried running the Previous AppImage but that no longer works either.

I've set the file permissions "sudo chmod a+x Filename" and tried "sudo chmod +rwx" still the same issues.

It seems like Cura doesn't know where the default folder. open - save folder is or can't activate the File Dialogue box.

Has anyone got any suggestions or work arounds.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Newbie here---I tried to work through the online account to see if I could save files on the cloud and pull them down elsewhere, but I can't. Have the exact same issue. Clearly the Linux/Cura/ChromeOS interfaces to not mesh. I'm sure there is a workaround for this issue---just need someone much smarter than I am to help out :)

UPDATE: I downloaded several of the prior versions, including Beta's to see if one of them would work. Running 4.13.1 works for me. I'm able to click on File> Open and the open dialog box appears. This certainly indicates that there is a bug in 5.0.0.0 that needs fixing.

    ===================================

Same problem. I have an Acer CB314. The install of Cura 5.0.0 went just fine. The program appears to run in every aspect, except clicking on the Open or File> Open does nothing. No dialog box appears, so I can't load or save anything. Upon starting the program from the Linux command prompt I get the following:

PyInstaller/loader/pyimod03_importers.py:495: DeprecationWarning: the imp module is deprecated in favour of importlib and slated for removal in Python 3.12; see the module's documentation for alternative uses
qt.qpa.wayland: Ignoring unexpected wl_surface.enter received for output with id: 7 screen name: "Screen5" screen model: "075A" This is most likely a bug in the compositor.
Cyclic dependency detected between "file:///tmp/.mount_Cura5.aiezrH/share/cura/resources/qml/Actions.qml" and "file:///tmp/.mount_Cura5.aiezrH/share/cura/resources/qml/Actions.qml"
QQmlEngine::setContextForObject(): Object already has a QQmlContext
qt.qpa.wayland: Ignoring unexpected wl_surface.enter received for output with id: 7 screen name: "Screen5" screen model: "075A" This is most likely a bug in the compositor.

I hope someone can figure this one out and post either a work around that works or a fix for Cura 5.0.0.

I've installed Cura 5.1.0 and this has the same issues as 5.0.0 can't load files if you drag a file onto it is loads however you cannot save the the sliced file...!  I'm using the latest version of the chrome OS (Version 104.0.5112.83 (Official Build) (64-bit)) and Linux Penguin is up to date.. Any suggestions are welcome

    Good News!

    Installing xdg-desktop-portal-gtk worked for me!

      • UltiMaker Cura 5.3 stable released
In this stable release, Cura 5.3 achieves yet another huge leap forward in 3D printing thanks to material interlocking! As well as introducing an expanded recommended print settings menu and lots of print quality improvements. Not to mention, a whole bunch of new printer profiles for non-UltiMaker printers!

      • Here it is. The new UltiMaker S7
The UltiMaker S7 is built on the success of the UltiMaker S5 and its design decisions were heavily based on feedback from customers.

        So what’s new?
The obvious change is the S7’s height. It now includes an integrated Air Manager. This filters the exhaust air of every print and also improves build temperature stability. To further enclose the build chamber the S7 only has one magnetically latched door.

The build stack has also been completely redesigned. A PEI-coated flexible steel build plate makes a big difference to productivity. Not only do you not need tools to pop a printed part off. But we also don’t recommend using or adhesion structures for UltiMaker materials (except PC, because...it’s PC). Along with that, 4 pins and 25 magnets make it easy to replace the flex plate perfectly – even with one hand.

The re-engineered print head has an inductive sensor which reduces noise when probing the build plate. This effectively makes it much harder to not achieve a perfect first layer, improving overall print success. We also reversed the front fan direction (fewer plastic hairs, less maintenance), made the print core door magnets stronger, and add a sensor that helps avoid flooding.

The UltiMaker S7 also includes quality of life improvements:
Reliable bed tilt compensation (no more thumbscrews) 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi A 1080p camera (mounted higher for a better view) Compatibility with 280+ Marketplace materials Compatibility with S5 project files (no reslicing needed) And a whole lot more
Curious to see the S7 in action?
We’re hosting a free tech demo on February 7.
It will be live and you can ask any questions to our CTO, Miguel Calvo.

      • UltiMaker Cura Alpha 🎄 Tree Support Spotlight 🎄
Are you a fan of tree support, but dislike the removal process and the amount of filament it uses? Then we would like to invite you to try this special release of UltiMaker Cura. Brought to you by our special community contributor @thomasrahm

We generated a special version of Cura 5.2 called 5.3.0 Alpha + Xmas. The only changes we introduced compared to UltiMaker Cura 5.2.1 are those which are needed for the new supports. So keep in mind, this is not a sneak peek for Cura 5.3 (there are some really cool new features coming up) but a spotlight release highlighting this new version of tree supports.
