You open a model file (STL, 3mf, etc.) in Cura and click on the "Slice" button.
Cura is not a simple program to learn as there are a LOT of settings. Play with the settings and look closely at the preview screen to see if your model is going to print like you want it to. Everyone gets it wrong the first few tries so if you can learn to read the preview you will save a lot of plastic.
If you switch from the Basic view to the "Custom" view all the settings will become available. To the right of the Search Settings box is an icon with three lines on it. It is the Setting Visibility tool Click on it and set the visibility to "All".
