How do you change filament mid-print on an S7?

I've tried searching the forums, but since you can't search for "s7", it's really hard to find any info about this. ("s7" is too short of a keyword for this forum's search function and it just ignores it.) In Cura, I can add the "filament change" code to the post processing scripts, and the S7 does actually pause, but there's no way to actually do the filament change once it's paused. The material station UI just says the filaments are currently in use and can't be changed. The "Tune" menu also has no option for changing filament either.

Any ideas?

    Im not sure I follow...
Why do you need to change the material mid print if your using a material station?

Also no, to manually manage filament on the machine the material station needs to be disconnected completely.

The most common reason would be to, say, change colors mid-print.

Oof. Well, that's unfortunate. 😕 It just seems like something the material station would be naturally suited for as one of its functions, especially since it's already built to change spools automatically.

The material station is meant for material runout failover.
Example load 2 spools of the same material type to the same extruder. When one runs out it auto loads the second one mid print and continues (it will do this forever too.)

Additionally its for quick access to different material color or type if your frequently changing every other print from pla to petg and back then it will auto load the required material so you dont have to.

Unfortunately what its not designed for is manual material changes mid print or more than 2 colors/materials (2 extruders)

    Hello

Practically there are two ways or hacks

    1. in Cura with the support blocker you can plan a colour change.

Unfortunately this is connected with restrictions in the print structure. Cura has to create into new walls.

    2. open the feeder. Sounds evil and is evil.

But it forces a material change.

    3. Cut off the material. But this way you lose 1.5 metres of filament when you change the material.

    Many greetings

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
