Good afternoon! I could really use some help!! I'm a Dad trying to help my daughters school get this printer working again. I've tried everything that I can think of to get the part cooling fans to come on. Hers's a list of what I have tried so far.

The printer is a Ulitmaker 2+ running ver. 3.3.0

  1. I have tried using Cura as well as Simplify3d.
  2. Probed the backside of the control board to comfirm that its measuring 24.29v. Another odd bit even when I dial the fan speed down it stays at 24.29%  till I reach to 1% then the  voltage drops to 24.27v.
  3. I have powered each motor with an external power supply and they both seem to work as normal.
  4. I have also done a continuity test to see if their's a brake in the wires, but everything was fine there too.
  5. I have also done a factory reset. which didnt change anything.

With all the testing that I have already done it seems to be a software and not a hardware issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

I also just tested the fan output on the control board by moving the LED light wires to the fan connector and was able to dim/brighten the leds by turning the wheel controls. When I plugged the fan wires into the LED connector it still wouldn't power the fans??

Firstly you should know that the fans are both 12 Volt wired in series (i.e. the power goes through one then continues through the second) so they have a 24Volt supply from the motherboard

Above the print hear there is a join which can be subject to a lot of movement and often can cause breaks in one of the connections so double check here first - even moving the  cables can make the fans work

most of the problems I have had with my UM2 (much modified) have been problems with those fans

    good luck

    S

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
