Since about a week or so ago, we noticed rather loud grating noises coming from our printer during the leveling process and it seems to be caused by the left guiding rod of the build plate being slightly misaligned for some reason, leading to contact between the plastic and the rod.

We've had the printer since 2019 and no one can really explain why the rod would have changed position, even just slightly. The screw and the right rod seem to be as straight as they used to be.

Has anyone else experienced this? I suppose we'll attempt to unscrew the top part of the printer and try moving it, a little, is there anything to be wary of when doing this?

I've tried to look for a video on disassembling the 5s but couldn't really find any other than replacing print cores or the print head and such things.

Opening the top seems simple enough overall, but I always like to know what awaits me before I mess something up

Sounds like the machine is cold. Without running a print, try setting the bed temp to 60 degrees and leaving it to warm up for 20min or so then try again.

If that is miss aligned suddenly.. it sounds like the frame of the machine itself has suffered impact or excessive pressure and pushed it out of square.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
