Traffic Cone 1:8 Print - strange slicer behavior

Posted (edited) · Traffic Cone 1:8 Print - strange slicer behavior

Hello community!

I've tried to print some small traffic cones for RC modeling purposes and ran into a strange defect with my prints.

1st try: Traffic cone STL from Thingiverse

2nd try: Remodeled traffic cone with Shapr3D

Both trys brought up the same behavior of the slicer/ or printer - I can't say in what stage it is happening.

Issue: The foot of the cone and the cone itself are not getting printed together - a small gap is produced in every piece which makes the traffic cone easy to crack (separation of foot and cone).

The model is a complete solid object with no gap at all.

What can be the problem here?

Printer: Ultimaker 2+

Material: Formfutura PLA red

Printer settings:

Nozzle 0,4

Speed 60 mm/s

Walls 2

If you could provide a Cura project file (.3mf, in Cura get it ready to print then go to File > Save Project) that would so we can see your slicing settings and such.

I don't know about the file from Thingiverse but the problem with the STL you uploaded is that that base stops, then the cone starts - they have pretty much no connection to each other. You need to extend the cone down into into the base so that it's being joined in with it. Also bear in mind that something just a couple of walls thick is going to be inherently fairly weak, especially where it goes from being "solid object to" to "couple of walls", so I'd increase the thickness of the cone if possible.
