I'm Anool Mahidharia, co-founder of Wyolum (www.wyolum.com) based out of Mumbai, India. Those of you who attended OHS2013 would probably know of us from the BADGEr conference badge project.

We purchased two UM2 machines recently - one for my buddy Kevin Osborn in Boston, and another for me. Took almost 2 months for me to receive my machine, and I had to pay 42% duty :(

Machine was pretty banged up when I received it - lots of screws fallen off, and a couple of them missing. I had to open up most of the machine and re-assemble it. However, once I set it up and running, its been going great. I'm loving it.

I'm still having intermittent issues with the nozzle not heating up when I start a print. Although it does heat up when I use the TUNE mode. I'm guessing it's something to do with Cura (on Ubuntu) rather than the machine itself.

The wiring harness with the connectors attached to the print head had wire crimping issues - some of them were hanging on by just a strand or two. I didn't have similar connectors/pins handy, so for the moment, I've just soldered the wires to the header pins the best I can. Maybe the intermittent heating could stem from this problem too - I'll have to investigate more over the coming days.

I showed off the machine at our local maker space (Maker's Asylum) and everyone just loved it.

Yesterday, I installed a spool of ABS filament in 3mm diameter (it measured 2.90mm at a couple of places, so looks good to use). My first couple of prints warped and peeled off after just a few layers of printing. But once I used the ABS+Acetone goop and applied a thin layer on the bed, it worked like a charm.

Welcome, Anool! Sorry to hear about your shipping problems - I think there's still quite a bit of work to do improving the packaging, and/or vibration-proofing the design.

Heating on the UM2 is handled within the firmware if you have Cura set up for a UM2 with UltiGcode. So most likely any heating problems are wiring related. Check the connectors on the board under the printer to make sure the wires are screwed in tightly.

Thanks for the replies folks. Seems I might be having intermittent bed heating issues too - the machine stops with an error indicating problem with the heating bed - can't remember the exact text - asking me to contact UM support. That could be a loose cabling issue too. Can you guys point me to instructions on dismantling the heated bed ? I'm kinda new here so not sure where to look for that answer.

Also, if I have to raise a support ticket, the sign up form is asking me for a Ultimaker Order ID. We ordered our's from Maker Shed, so I don't have a UM Order ID. Even though the Order ID field is optional, I'm unable to submit it and it keeps asking me to fill up the missing Order ID. Can some one help.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
