UM2 ERROR - STOPPED Temp sensor

After upgraded to the latest firmware version (14.07.0), UM2 occasionally displayed the captioned error message. Not sure if it is related to the new firmware or it is a hardware issue.

Cold starting the machine again and usually it can work again. But sometimes it refused to print, and the print head's temperature is lower than normal (PLA not melted) even if the front panel displayed 210C or so. It seems the temperature reading is wrong.

Anyone has similar experience? Thanks.

A while back I started having temperature spikes and odd temperature problems. As you said, the temperature didn't seem to match the real temp of the print head. What I found was loose Thermocouple connections where they attatch to the control board underneath the Ultimaker. I would start with a quick check of the thermocouple wiring.

    Hi

Just got my UM2 last week and what a fun :-) After a few days UM2 started to display: ERROR - STOPPED Temp Sensor

    tn_gallery_36125_1129_1003352.jpg

Finally UM2 would not start at all - just displaying the error. Somewhat confused. Made a ticket - no reaction :-(

OK - this is open source and there is good community. Temp Sensor has to do with a sensor call PT 100 the community said. Looking in UM2 part list (at GIT) and there it was.

How to verify if a PT 100 sensor is broken? A colleague said that the resistance in 20 degree Celsius must be around 120 ohm. Hmmm ok .... where is the sensor? Not fun of splitting the printer head (don’t know how to), but the slot on the UM2 circuit board might be found.

Somewhat difficult to find the board, but at last found with the mark "TEMP1"

Unplugging the cable from the board and measuring the resistance with an ohm-meter. Expected result would be around 120 ohm, but found infinite.

OK there is properly a problem. The colleague said “try to put a 120 ohm resistance in the slot”. This will cheat the UM2 to believe that the sensor is working. This done …….. and the UM2 starts without an error.

Conclusion: The PT 100 sensor is broken or the cable to the sensor. Good thing is that it is very cheap.
