  1. I had a question about my order for a spare part too. I got a reply saying that they had contacted the logistics department but didn't have my order number so couldn't get any information. The order number was in the title of the e-mail, including the one they sent back to me stating they didn't have the order number....
  2. Any more opinions on this subject now the UM2 has been out a bit longer ?
  3. I had a lot of trouble putting fabadashery filament on the ultimaker spools until I tried doing it on a broom handle(running through reel and spool centres), it takes a bit of time but it fits on there and the broom handle keeps it from tangling (it still kind of birds nests but If you gently spin it the opposite way your winding it on it goes back to a manageable reel).
  4. I hear you, I'm excited about predictions in lots of new SLS machine coming out now key patents are up but the build volumes of the current offerings un 5k are far too small for me. Maybe next year..... Its looking like a UM2 for me. Just need to sell the UM1 to part finance it (in the for sale section If anyone's interested) Ill be sad to see it go but I'm hoping there'll be a small step up in print quality and a bit less time spent maintaining and tinkering with the machine.
  5. I certainly prefer the ideals of Ultimaker, and I have been very happy with the UM1, the support I've received and the help and advise Ive had on these forums. But ultimately I want the best quality 3D prints possible within my budget. This is why I was so disappointed with the MAKE reviews this year, because all I have to go on is the sentence at the end of the UM2 review saying it has some catching up to do, which I'm not convinced is true. The build volume of the UM2 is probably going to be the clincher anyway.
  6. I bought the PDF of the magazine, as Id done the year before prior to buying the UM1. I have to say it didn't feel like as comprehensive review had been done this time round. I cant help but ask myself question like do Makerbot and Make magazine have a very good relationship now ? Is their marketing/branding team very good now major money is behind them. I'm not saying there was anything dodgy about the reviews but the cynic in me just wonders whether this could of had some sort of very small bearing on who pipped the other to the post ? As I say this is the cynical side of me, for all I know the Makerbot 2 really does print better than the Ultimaker 2, but there was nothing in that review that seemed to back up the results in any way. I am currently trying to decided between a Makerbot 2 and an Ultimaker 2, I dont feel like the review has really helped me decide.
  7. Hi bit cheeky but do you mind telling me what you got for your ultimaker ? Im thinking of selling mine. Jamie
  8. Original Ultimaker for Sale in UK 13 months old. Fully assembled and callibrated. It prints very well. Lots of printed improvements (see below). Ill also include a close to full roll of black fabedashery PLA (Ive found this to be the best PLA). FOR SALE: Ultimaker Original with Ulti-controller and V2 Hot end. Adjustable LED lighting integrated into Ultimaker Printed carry handle Printed extruder gear Printed Bowden clip circlip to improve retraction Printed belt tensioners Images of the machine: Images of a recent print: Its served me very well and Ill be sad to see it go. I am selling to buy a new ultimaker 2. Sensible offers/Questions please message me. Thanks Jamie.
  9. Thanks for the replies, I have a UM1 and was wondering about getting a UM2, I think Ill wait and see If better print quality is reported as that's what I am most interested in, although the heated bed would be nice.
  10. Ive just seen the ultimaker 2 has been released and read the info. My question is does the ultimaker 2 produce better quality prints than the ultimaker 1 ? I can see the heated bed is a big plus, but are the other components used enabling better prints ?
  11. Hello, I have a model I am printing with lots of small holes. small blobs droop sometimes from the top of the holes. Are there any slicers which are better at bridging than others to eliminate this ? Any tips on settings to help ? Thanks for any input in advance.
  12. Wow, how did I miss that, Ill use the Z roof ! Thanks.
  13. Hello fellow ultimakers, Does anyone have any idea how to make support only generate to a certain height on the stl model ? (Im currently using kisslicer) My only idea so far is to slice it twice, one with support and one without and splice the 2 together at the height I want the support to stop. How easy is that to do ? How do you identify layer height in the g-code to make sure no layers are missed ? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  14. After much deliberation and noticing that the PLA was coming out of the nozzle at a slight angle I decided there was a partial clog right at the tip of the nozzle which I had not been able to remove in my previous attempt to clear the hot end of any blockages. I heated the hot end up, removed the nozzle(apparently you should not try to remove the nozzle cold as it can shear off) and cleaned it out by using a lighter to completely burn out anything in the nozzle, there was a little smoke which leads me to believe there may have been a tiny bit of plywood or something flammable in there. I washed the nozzle and removed the soot with some wire wool (cleaning again and blowing out any particles). HURRAY ! the ultimaker is now back to the quality I'm used to. Thanks everyone for their input, I hope this helps someone else.
  15. That's all a bit worrying ! Thanks, Ill give it a go at 240.
  16. Hmmm, thanks for the input, before I go off on this tangent why would the thermo couple suddenly start reading wrong ?
  17. Ill disassemble and have a look at that. Im also going to try pushing a pin/drill bit through the nozzle at temp, Ive read a few threads where this has solved sudden under extrusion. I have tried slow speed & low layer heights and the problem still occurs. I am 100% sure this is a hardware problem. Im using archived g-code I know printed absolutely problem free a few months ago. I just want my old UM back ! :(
  18. I modified the extruder to accomodate the bearing. Unfortunately it did not solve my problems. I am convinced that it is a hardware problem, I am printing G-Code that I know 100% printed fine a few months ago. The problem is under extrusion. I have checked the nozzle and Bowden for obstructions - all clear, although I did notice a very slight resistance when the filament gets to the white connection piece at the extrusion end of the bowden. The extruder itself seems to be working fine. I am at a loss as to what to check next. Could the extruder motor have been damaged ? Any suggestions welcome.
  19. The 4mm bearing fits fine into the removable part of the extruder as you have shown above. Its the part of the extruder attached to the back of the machine, where the filament fits in between the two plywood sides which the 4mm bearing doesn't fit between. I could try loosening it. I'm not sure it'll be enough though. I have contemplated sanding a little off.
  20. A quick note on the bearing solution. The bearing sizes specified in the above post is 4mm wide, this size doesn't fit in between the two ply walls of the extruder, it needs to be 4mm internal diameter, 8mm external diameter and 3mm width not 4.
  21. I found the post If anyone else reads this and wants to replace their Delrin wheel: http://umforum.ultimaker.com/index.php?/topic/1676-modification-of-upgraded-extruder-drive/?hl=%2Breplace+%2Bdelrin
  22. I'm not sure If it turns or not, I have a theory that it probably turns some of the time and intermittently gets stuck in the groove and causes friction which would explain why the gaps in the prints appear quite suddenly in bands as the friction causes slight under extrusion ? Anyway Ill replace and see If it fixes the problem. I've tried slowing down and increasing temps but the problem persists. I'm 99% sure its a hardware problem now. Ill try to find the post your talking about. Thanks.
  23. Could this be the problem ? http://s2.postimg.org/3v7atr32x/20130716_193445.jpg A big dent in the delrin wheel in the extruder ?
