  1. What is the benefit to adding each of the upgrades to your Ultimaker Original: A. Knurled drive bolt kit (v3) B. Extruder drive upgrade C. Ulticontroller kit D. Hot end upgrade (v2) Also, are there 3rd party alternatives or printables that are considered better?
  2. So I am still deciding on which 3d printer I am going to purchase and I came across one that is new and being manufactured in the USA called the Copperhead printer. Copperhead positioning precision is x/y =11.7 microns, z axis= 2 microns. Ultimaker 2 positioning precision precision of x/y = 12.5 microns, z axis= 5 microns. Ultimaker 2 prints much faster though, the link below shows the stats the American company claims for its Copperhead printer. http://www.acadianrobotics.com/3d-printer.html Does this mean the Copperhead 3d printer will have better printing resolution than the Ultimaker 2 or are their more variables that account for print resolution?
  3. What is the benefit of dual extrusion? Also is there a site outside of this forum that sells used Ultimakers?
  4. It appears that Makershed and Dynamism have the same price for the Ultimaker 2. Does anyone know when either of these retailers will have more Ultimaker 2 in stock?
  5. Also when you guys say the Ultimaker 2 is less "hackable", does that have more to do with the new frame being so nice that you don't want to alter it as opposed to the Ultimaker+ wood frame or does the Ultimaker 2 have less modifiable parts? I understand the Ultimaker 2 extruder does not currently have any third party options, but the rest of the printer is still modifiable, correct?
  6. What about differences in customer support? If I order an Ultimaker 2 in the USA and it ships to my home (also in USA), will I get a different customer service team than if I ordered the Ultimaker+ from the Netherlands?
  7. Are the shipping costs included in the total price? For example the Ultimaker+ is listed as 1195 euro and Ultimaker 2 at 1895 euro, is shipping included in those prices or an additional fee for shipping to the USA?
  8. This was a great reply, thanks gR5! I agree the UM2 does look great, if I had the extra money I would get it. Given their functionality is very similar, I will probably go for the Ultimaker+ and upgrade to the next Ultimaker model (UM3) in a few years when its released.
  9. Thanks for the reply Gr5. I checked out makersheds website and they appear to only have the Ultimaker 2. I am not opposed to purchasing an Ultimaker 2, but its $1000 more than the Ultimaker+ and I have not been able to find information describing the "functional" differences between the Ultimaker 2 and Ultimaker+. I sent Simon an email regarding purchasing an UM in the USA, hopefully he will get back to me soon. In the mean time just need help deciding which Ulimaker I should get...
  10. How do we place an order with a USA agent? When I click the shopping link the Ultimaker is listed in Euros and am afraid if I complete the transaction I will be purchasing from the Netherlands instead of my local USA site, recommendations?
  11. Contact me via tdcs1985@gmail.com if you are interested in selling, I am located in the USA and am willing to receive shipping and work through ebay or paypal.
  12. I am new to 3d printing and am ready to commit to buying a 3d printer. I am a student interested in designing prototypes including things with functional moving parts (i.e. gears). I am open to all suggestions, but I am currently stuck between deciding between an Ultimaker+ and an Ultimaker 2. I've found posts that discuss the changes between the Original Ultimaker and the Ulimaker 2, but it seems the Ultimaker+ has adopted many of the advancements/upgrades seen in the Ultimaker 2 albiet $1000 cheaper. Can anyone explain the difference between the Ultimaker+ and the Ultimaker 2? Does the either model come in a DIY kit for cheaper?
