  1. I've seen a lot of good Prusa i3's and I've see a lot of kits for sale cheap that never work right. For myself I don't like the bed moving in the x way, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

The right question is what are you going to do with your printer? Material? Budget?

And how soon you need it to work.

Your skill level with building computer stuff. If not high I wouldn't do a kit.

The good news there will be a lot of used UM2s for sale as guys up grade.

I own a UM and a makerbot rep2x they both came out of the box working.

  2.

That's interesting.  The few times I have bid on Ultimakers on eBay, the same buyer snipes them at 30 second remaining.  At least the last time around I made him pay more  :)

Nice. They always sell for what i put them at, but can't stop certain people from 'offering' absurd low amounts and then getting mad when they don't get it.

How many UM do you sell?

  3. Yeh I complained about the upgrade kit (and rightly so) and yes,  I have had problems, but the idea of moving the printer to Foehnsturm's Mod interests me.

Yea the price was high. If your machine was well used and you didn't have olsson block all ready, maybe worth it. (my UM old stock never used until I got it this summer)

For me I thought it was lame that the old extruder even need an upgrade with a new motor, after all the bragging how great the machine was. Then it's still the same style were you can't get into the works to clean it out, Like the IRobertI.

Overall I'm still happy with my machine.

  4. That's far from 'official' it's a development done by Creatr Italy and so far all the posts from users that bought that had problems or lack of support from they. I would stay away from that unless they start to answer all the post from users.

I didn't mean to imply it was an official kit. And as to problems I think they are the same problems that ultimaker has with dual head extruder .
  5. A few of the reasons why I went with two feed one nozzle,

1.) same feed rate per line but double the production

2.) exact same melt rate per line but double the production

= no material slippage yet higher production out of a single "mouth"

3.) with two feeds it will open the availability of tinkering with high carbon filament/PLA mixtures

The original problem is the low cc/m that I was achieving out of 150 mm/s through a .4 nozzle

so I bored out a .4 to a 1.6 (I could care less about ultra high accuracy in my line of work. this was perfect until the material melt rate couldn't keep up. So I knew I couldn't melt pla at more than 350C ish. So the solution was that I needed to be melting more than a few mm of material at a time. (enter Dual feed single "mouth"). Basically the general goal is print at aproximately 250-300 mm^3/s. Not too far off to imagine considering I was getting about 220 mm^3/s consistently (according to cura).

I see you haven't been on here in awhile. I was wondering how your 2 into on was doing? Any pic's of it?

    Thanks Ed

  6. The dual extruder is still up in the air as far as I can tell. Power supply problems, software problems, etc.... been waiting for dual myself. UM3 release date ?? wouldn't hold out for that.

when picking out a printer this is a good question to ask yourself.

Do I want to work WITH my printer? (aka buy a good one that works out the of box)

Or do I want to work ON my printer? (aka buy a kit, rebuild an old one, need good geek skills)

Ultimaker is like buying apple products. $$$ Mine worked right out of box happy with purchase. Lot of good deals on machines out there.

  7. Lol for the 1st time since the new forum was released last year I want to search (for nGen). How does one do that? I cannot see anything that says Search anywhere. No doubt it is there but blowed if I can see it. I trust such a question will not downgrade me to Newbie rating!
