Strange sound, any suggestions on the Source, want to fix it before something breaks.

Printer has started to sound bad for some 20 hours print time ago.

The it was just a sound now and then now it's there almost all the time.

I have tried to put a finger on the different axis as well as the print head and the box, close to ant ball bearings but the ticking sound does not seem to make enough vibrations for me to feel where it comes from.

Nothing is visible in the print though.

Any Ideas?

Sounds like a belt riding up on a pulley. Check each pulley and see if any of the belts are grinding up against the side, riding up and then snapping down. Might be easier to trace if you turn the machine off and manually move the print head around. Easier to isolate individual axes that way.

If the source is what you think it might be then what is the solution. Could I just put some oil on the belt to reduce friction against the sides?

It could be that the pulley is slightly out of position and needs to be adjusted. Look at the belts and see if they run straight and parallel to the rod above/underneath and to themselves.

Check if the rods are held in place properly by grabbing them and trying to move them back and forth (try to push them out of the machine so to speak).

If you need to adjust their position you do that by unscrewing the little set screw on the pulley so that you can move it along the rod.

If you're unlucky it could also be a pulley that isn't up to snuff and is a bit "wonky" (technical term ).

But before all that, just visually inspect all the pulleys and belts while you move the head around to see if this is actually the problem.

Losend the pulley on the rod and thightend it back again and noize is gone.

Was a while ago but in case someone finds the thread looking for a solution to same problem.

Suggested solution worked fine.
