Olsson Blocks info?

Posted · Olsson Blocks info?

I've seen a few posts here and there talking about these. However I haven't heard much more than that.

Is this something that would benefit an Ultimaker Original?

What's involved in installing one?

What are the Pros and Cons?

I know some mentioned having different sized nozzles to print with. Is the standard/included size not the best?

Thanks for educating me!

The Olsson blocks are made for the UM2. In a way they're a version of the block you have on your UMO in that the nozzle can be unscrewed from the main block rather than having the nozzle and heaterblock be a single piece.

All the info you could ever want is contained in this monster thread:

    https://ultimaker.com/en/community/view/8689-custom-heater-block-to-fit-e3d-nozzle-on-ultimaker-2-the-olsson-block

But for you it will not offer any advantage and you'd have to modify things quite a bit to make it fit and work in the first place.

The standard 0.4mm nozzle is a great middle ground between ultra fine detail and raw through put. Having more nozzles to choose from means you can go for high detail with a 0.25mm nozzle or, at the other end of the scale, print much faster with a 0.8mm nozzle.
