Whole Print shifts in Y-Direction

Hi guys,

I made quite some good prints on our new Ultimaker 2 Extended (not +). However, we are experiencing some problems lately. On standard PLA-settings with Ultimaker branded PLA, the following occurred:

I experienced this before, so I tightened the screws of the gears on the axes and lubricated all axes. Then it happened again, really frustrating. :(

What is going on?

Love to hear from you!

Bye,

Pieter

Hi @Pieter90, welcome to the forums! I don't think this has anything to do with the filament. Since the shift is so erratic instead of just being skewed I don't think it is an pulley or belt that is causing it, but rather an end stop.

Could you check if they all still work properly?

Maybe the Y end stop (front) is rubbing against the pulley and that caused some errors during your print? (making it think it is being triggered?)

    Hi Sander,

Thanks for your fast reply. It doesn't look like the end stop could have been triggered.. The pulleys and belts look OK. Could it be due to overheating? I read something about that..

In theory yes, but afaik that is more likely to happen to an Ultimaker Original, and further up in a print, when more heat can be stored.

Maybe I didn't explain it clearly, I don't think the end stop was physically triggered, but if a pulley is rubbing through the wire it could trigger a false alarm.

You could try to tilt your Ultimaker a little bit, maybe even put a fan underneath and do a couple of more prints. If the end stop wire is damaged it should probably surface again sometimes in the next few prints. If it doesn't maybe it was overheating (but I don't think so..)

@IRobertI, even when a layershift is this intense all of the sudden, but continues normally after a layer or two?

Possibly, they can be just on the edge of being ok and then the head hit something in the print that was sticking up which caused them to slip that one time. I just figure that it's such a simple thing to check/fix that it's worth ruling it out right away.
