One of the project files have been uploaded for you. Settings have been good thus far, theses are about the exact same settings I've been using since day one, with the exception of Z Hop. They have given me pretty amazing results so far, the only difference between these couple prints and the previous ones that havent ever had stringing issues is the update to Cura.
Hi @ZombiBlacksmith, I have sliced your project and looked at the gcode. So, it's only using retraction when it's moving across air gaps (between the model and the support or between parts of the model). For all other travel moves within the model it's not using retraction (because combing mode is set to all and the Max Comb Distance With No Retract is set to 0). So you should expect quite a lot of oozing within the model. Could you please post an image showing the stringing? Thanks.
Is this your first time using PETG? Stringing can be notoriously challenging to fine tune! I'm going through that now with both my UM2+ and CR-10S.
For PETG I use no skin combing and a max combing distance without retract of 10mm. I also use z-hop (delta machine).

Smart: sadly, I don't have any pictures of the stringing, but it was everywhere, not just between parts (the project was only one of two parts). It was in the square opening, between supports, and everywhere else, you name it. As for the combing, I'm not familiar with this setting at all, I must admit. I just assumed retraction would retract at any layer change or every non-extrusion movement. How would you recommend resolving that?
LePaul: This is my first time using any PETG, at all. So, initially, I thought it was just a bad temp or something, or maybe it was just this PETG (I'm of the understanding it tends to be on the stringier side), but when I swapped to PLA, it did the exact same thing to alsmot the exact extent.
UPDATE: I uninstalled 3.5.1 and reverted to 3.4, so far the only stringing that occurs is between the support for each piece, no where at all in any of the piece. Will post picture when I can. This is with PLA as a tester and more of a baseline. I'll try PETG when I get off work tonight.
I'm a newcomer to PETG as well.
I've used ColorFabb nGen and ColorFabb HT. The suggested settings do not work well and overall, I've found ColorFabb to cost twice as much as anything else...and twice the frustration.
Back to PETG,,
I've been doing some prints with it on my CR-10S (Zyltech brand) and getting some mixed results. Some good, some .... need tweaking. I am not confident the stock hot end is the greatest (China!)...I'd like to replace it with a Swiss Micro all metal hot end and know that I'm not having issues there.
On the Ultimaker 2+, I've just tried a few test prints. They came out really good....but really hairy/stringy.
PLA prints like a champ on my UM2+. The Cura default profile is usually quite good, unless you need supports...then that's where Cura is usually a disappointment. My S3D profile for the UM2+ works much better for those needs. I just haven't got the profile refined enough to give me the almost-no-z-seam Cura does.

Also, if you want a retract at layer change there is an option to do that.
With the above combing settings, I print PETG using the current Cura with no stringing whatsoever.
Alright, first and foremost, I appreciate all help and feedback here greatly. However, It seems we might have gone a little down a side path from the main issue that I was facing initially; The stringing wasnt limited to PETG, but affected my PLA the exact way, and I've never had stringing issues with PLA ever. Something changed between 3.5.1 and 3.4 that has been the cause of the stringing (I bypassed 3.5).
The settings that I have always used for PLA were transferred to 3.5.1 during the update from 3.4, and they were unusable, in a stringing sense. I tweaked a lot of stuff here and there with my PLA, and finally got the stringing to only happen between the paths for the support on either piece, but not in the actual part, with the exception of the two very top locking lugs in the pictures posted above. This was after I reverted to 3.4
Sadly, I wasnt able to grab a picture of this like I previously thought as I bounced home from work during lunch to grab the parts.
You guys are the pros here, especially compared to myself. Im still learning the ins and outs of everything, especially all the non-standard somewhat hidden settings of cura.
Ill run another test print of my PLA, and then if that looks good, Ill throw the PETG on there and see what that does.
Sidenotes: I dont think Ive ever used standard profiles on anything so far, which is only PLA and now a bit of PETG.
Also: The PETG that I have is rather unsual from what Ive read; Solutech Translucent Blue. Recommended temps are 200-220. I had more delamination than I care to admit my first print with it at 215, aesthetics were good though save for stringing everywhere. Boosted to 235, no change in stringing but full layer adhesion, no evidence of overheating. Overall, turned out pretty strong but ultimately failed towards the end so I stress tested the filament.
As confirmation; I should:
-Mess with Combing settings, and potentially boost overall retraction (maybe 3-5 mills?)
-Look into Adding retract at layer change
-Ask you guys a billion more questions (lol)

Your PETG certainly prints a lot cooler than mine.
What retraction distance and speed did you say gave good results?
Currently, I cant say any retraction has produced good results with PETG.
So, I ran a test print last night, and I'll attach the Gcode for inspection, but this is out of Matterhackers PLA, and for some reason theres a pretty good amount of stringing on it. I adjusted retraction to 3mm at 70 mm/s, combing without retract at 10 mm, z hop turned on, and I'm getting some weird artifzcting in the print. It's not fully done (9+ hour print), and this is just getting a bit weird. I'm starting to think it might be hardware related, but I replaced my nozzle and teflon tube this weekend, so I'm not entirely sure. Maybe it's an excuse to upgrade to the e3d V6 XD.
Layers seem to be kind of jagged here for some reason. The print I produced yesterday didnt have any stringing in print, and really clean lines. Same layer height and temp for both.
Well, one piece of this print got pretty okay adhesion, the other however, did not. I needed this part this past week, and it's just been getting pushed further out. Problems seem to be getting worse, and I don't have any clue as to why. I've never had a problem with this filament ?

I am just starting to use the Ultimater 3 Extended and have made one successful print, but have failed at every additional attempt. I am having trouble with the filament stringing right from the start, as if it is not adhering to the plate. I have followed the instructions to thoroughly clean the glass plate and use the glue stick to add adhesive each time, and am using the default settings, (using AA.4 core, PLA silver gray filament) Everything worked the first time but nothing has worked each additional time.
plate temp is at 60C, I increased it to 64C on one attempt, maybe not enough.
Any ideas anyone has on what to try or on what settings to check or change I would be grateful for. Cura version problem? I am using 3.6. The attached shot is of the plate after the first few minutes, with clumps of pla also.

I haven't used the Solutech PETG until after the update, so I just thought it was pretty stringy. Hatchbox ive been using for the past 6 months or so without any problems what so ever. Also: I started using Z Hop, so maybe that had something to do with it. I just dont entirely believe that this is the entirely the problem. Ive tweaked everything that I could possibly think of. More retraction, less retraction, layer heights, temps, cooling with an additional box fan. I havent checked any of the hardware yet, but this nozzle has only seen PLA, and Ive only pumped about 3/4 of a roll through it. (stock brass, .2 i believe, but could be wrong)
