Cura 4.0 beta not purging 1st color

I have noticed that on a 2 color file that the 1st color swap that it does not go to the prime tower and purge the 1st color. It works fantastic on the 2nd swap and on. I have to add a brim large enough to purge all the old color out or it will contaminate the other color on the 1st swap. Has anyone else noticed this problem? This may be specific to a 2 in and one out nozzle. This is on a Creality CR-X.

Well, we've had no such reports for any of the dual Ultimaker printers, so I'm guessing it's a profile/configuration issue. Since we don't actually maintain the profiles of third party printers (we only check if they don't break anything in Cura, not if they actually produce decent prints), there is not much I can help you with.

The only problem with that is I installed the exact same profile/configuration in 3.4.1 and it works perfectly. Not sure what has changed and I understand that you concentrate mainly on Ultimaker printers but something has.

Well, the UM doesn't need to purge the head on color swap, so it is a different problem set. If I read it correctly, he is using a dual-in head with a single nozzle. That would mean it would require more then the math to change, but have different g-code then would be generated with a full dual head machine like the UM

I've noticed 3 things impacting CR-X dual printing with Cura 4.0.0 Beta (OSX):

    1) Extruder Start/End Gcode isn't inserted on tool change. My workaround was two post-processing scripts, which is kludgy but works fine. Through trial-n-error I figured out that retraction on Extruder End Gcode needs to be more than -60 mm (Creality recommends -80) and re-priming after tool swap needs to similarly be >+60 (I used +80 again).

    2) The default prime-tower-volume is WAY WAY too small to purge between tools. I had set it to >80 mm3 on each extruder and 90 might be safer. (FYI, I use a 30 mm circular tower). For reference, S3D profiles seem to use 91 mm3.

    3) the tower often topples over so I use a brim whether I need it or not for the tower.

i have a bit different issue, then the part are in same color for more layer (for example, red), cura  every layer go to prime tower, use grey color, then red color (a bit, not enought to clean) then go to the object with dirty red..

Increase "Prime Tower Minimum Volume" to > 80 (I recommend 90) on all extruders.

it looks like cura needs a mixing nozzle setting, the best work around is to print a skirt or brim with the second color and use that as the first purge. or use repetier, I havnt tried slic3r.

      • UltiMaker Cura 5.3 stable released
In this stable release, Cura 5.3 achieves yet another huge leap forward in 3D printing thanks to material interlocking! As well as introducing an expanded recommended print settings menu and lots of print quality improvements. Not to mention, a whole bunch of new printer profiles for non-UltiMaker printers!

      • Here it is. The new UltiMaker S7
The UltiMaker S7 is built on the success of the UltiMaker S5 and its design decisions were heavily based on feedback from customers.

        So what’s new?
The obvious change is the S7’s height. It now includes an integrated Air Manager. This filters the exhaust air of every print and also improves build temperature stability. To further enclose the build chamber the S7 only has one magnetically latched door.

The build stack has also been completely redesigned. A PEI-coated flexible steel build plate makes a big difference to productivity. Not only do you not need tools to pop a printed part off. But we also don’t recommend using or adhesion structures for UltiMaker materials (except PC, because...it’s PC). Along with that, 4 pins and 25 magnets make it easy to replace the flex plate perfectly – even with one hand.

The re-engineered print head has an inductive sensor which reduces noise when probing the build plate. This effectively makes it much harder to not achieve a perfect first layer, improving overall print success. We also reversed the front fan direction (fewer plastic hairs, less maintenance), made the print core door magnets stronger, and add a sensor that helps avoid flooding.

The UltiMaker S7 also includes quality of life improvements:
Reliable bed tilt compensation (no more thumbscrews) 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi A 1080p camera (mounted higher for a better view) Compatibility with 280+ Marketplace materials Compatibility with S5 project files (no reslicing needed) And a whole lot more
Curious to see the S7 in action?
We’re hosting a free tech demo on February 7.
It will be live and you can ask any questions to our CTO, Miguel Calvo.

      • UltiMaker Cura Alpha 🎄 Tree Support Spotlight 🎄
Are you a fan of tree support, but dislike the removal process and the amount of filament it uses? Then we would like to invite you to try this special release of UltiMaker Cura. Brought to you by our special community contributor @thomasrahm

We generated a special version of Cura 5.2 called 5.3.0 Alpha + Xmas. The only changes we introduced compared to UltiMaker Cura 5.2.1 are those which are needed for the new supports. So keep in mind, this is not a sneak peek for Cura 5.3 (there are some really cool new features coming up) but a spotlight release highlighting this new version of tree supports.
