As Owen stated, parts in an assy cannot be merged into a contiguous body. It is possible to insert one part file into another. You may then be able to merge them into one body.

when you save your .sldasm file as an stl, you need to go into "options" to "save all components of assembly into single file"
depending on your solidworks version, the wording may be different, but it's there.
Hi there,
Just wondered if I can get a little Solidworks into Cura advice.
Have just started using Solid works so still working on the various tutorials, I have just run a quick test on two objects which I thought were stuck together using Mate?.
When I save as an STL file I seem to have two files rather than one with the combined objects. Any ideas where I am going wrong
Cheers
Mark

Fantastic, will look into this, this evening. Just dipping my toe in 3D modelling at the moment, so very steep learning curve.
Edit just checked - yes exactly as stated, just gone into options when saving as an STL file and the option is there.
Many thanks for your help
I also mentioned this problem for myself. I found out that you can also save the assembly as a part. Then you can open the part and combine the bodies and save it as an .stl file.
Veedee, thanks for the info on that also. That will be very useful also.
Have just purchased the Solid Works Bible, so currently navigating through that.
I had also wondered this the other day, thanks for the info

Mate is placing 2 separate parts in an assembly. I don't know if you are able to join them.
