During startup of the UM S5 the following message appears: Communication error with printer head fault code ER34.

Ultimaker site for fault code ER34:

When this error appears it means that the print head and electronics cannot communicate properly with each other. This is most likely due to a faulty connection between the print head and electronics.

If a USB stick was inserted into the Ultimaker S5 when the error appeared, the log files were automatically stored on the USB stick.

If there was no USB stick inserted when the error occurred, please insert a USB stick, and navigate to Preferences > Maintenance > Save log files to USB.

i am unable to to navigate via the touch screen even after a restart.

What is the solution to this issue of being unable to navigate via the touch screen.

best regards

jacob

Hi @ganimagaan, thank you for your post. You could try to open up the top bracket of the print head, in it should be the print head cable connector. If you press it to make sure it is connected properly, does the error go away?

Here is a video that explains how:

    Hello all,

I have the same ER34 issue. Just wondering if opening the print head won't void the warranty as it is a new printer

Since we have the Ultimaker S3 we had the ER34 five times! It mostly likes to pup-up in the middle of a large print. So, you must disassemble the print-head and reassemble it. And not to mention your print is ruined. As much as I like the S3/S5 and some of their features, this is bad engineering! Ultimaker should design this better in this price range I think this is unacceptable!

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
