Ultimaker 3 Active Leveling problems

My Ultimaker 3 has been updated to firmware update 5.3.0, and the active leveling is going wonkey. The build plate will move up after it and the printer cores heat up, but then sometimes stop suddenly and give me "Active leveling failed." warning and not allow me to print. Ive tried manually leveling it and it still reverts to active leveling before every print.

To prevent it from active levelling before every print, you can set the active levelling frequency to 'never' in the options of your UM3.

To get it back working first check the cable in the back of the print head. You can see it, when you open the front fan door, it's a red/blacl cable in the back that connects to the bottom part of the printhead-door. That cable can break after a while (mostly from opening and closing the printhead often to change the cores. The cable is a 5ish Euro spare part and it can be replaced in about half an hour if you have never done it before (and way less if you already know the procedure).

in the UM3 it should indeed be possible to never use active leveling, so indeed set it to Never AND also run the manual leveling procedure once after doing so.

It might also be better to do a factory reset/reset all settings before you do any of this so that old data can't block this from working.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
